Getting to know Dr. Mayra Cabrera Dean
Dr. Cabrera is a board-certified psychiatrist with several years of experience working with an ethnically and culturally diverse population in outpatient, inpatient, and psychiatric emergency room settings. She earned her Doctor of Medicine from the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey and completed her residency at Beth Israel Medical Center - Petrie Division. She also holds a bachelor's degree from Columbia University. Most recently, Dr. Cabrera practiced privately, treating adults with a wide range of mental illnesses both in person and via telepsychiatry. Prior to this, she was an attending psychiatrist in the outpatient department and in the Comprehensive Psychiatric Evaluation Center at Mount Sinai Beth Israel, where she also served as Associate Training Director of Psychiatric Residency Training. Dr. Cabrera has a strong background in psychopharmacology as well as supportive and psychodynamic psychotherapy.

Because we accept insurance, we can reduce out-of-pocket expenses and still offer high-quality care. You may not have any cost related to your visit with us, depending upon your insurance plan. Most patients pay a small copay per visit, subject to any deductible or coinsurance that your health plan has. The Center for Medicare and Medicaid Services determines appropriate billing guidelines. These guidelines depend on the length of the visit and the complexity and severity of your diagnosis. For this reason, we need to wait until after the visit for the final determination. We then submit the claim to your insurance company. The charges are calculated based upon pre-negotiated prices with your insurance company. Your insurance company will then determine what amount, if any, is your responsibility per your insurance plan.

Dr. Dean is fantastic. She’s calm, thoughtful, and thorough. She also seems to keep very up-to-date on treatments and medications but also really pays attention (both in terms of the emotional and biological aspects of psychiatry).

Dr. Cabrera is an excellent physician. I was very uncomfortable about seeing a psychiatrist, and she immediately made me feel secure, confident, and reassured. She has a deeply caring, and highly personal approach; I can tell she cares a lot about me as her patient. She was very responsive to my needs, very thorough with her evaluation, and very quick to individualize my care. As someone who works with many healthcare professionals in my job, I can honestly say she is caring, knowledgable, and emphatic clinician.

I am really impressed with Dr. Cabrera's dedication to her patients. She is very astute and war with a personality that puts you at ease and makes it easy to open up to her and the process. I have gone through a complete transformation within just a year of being in treatment.
