Getting to know Dr. Meicheng Chiang

Dr. Meicheng Chiang is one of the very few psychiatrists with both a MD and a PhD degrees. She is also board certified in psychiatry. She offers virtual (and some in person ) psychiatric appointments for medication and psychotherapy. She treat patients as a whole person with her extensive science and psychotherapy training. She has helped many patients in difficult mental health situations to achieve a much healthier life.

What should a new client know about working with you?

Dr. Chiang spends time with her patients. She listens and asked important questions to help with the understanding of her patients. These questions include patients' current social situations, past history and biological factors. In addition to psychotherapy she will assess the benefit and risk for medications. It would be discussed with her patients. A shared decision will be made after patients are well informed about the medications. Dr. Chiang would not support maintenance benzodiazepine use unless patients agree to work towards tapering it off. Dr. Chiang will not support long term disability application unless she diagnosed her patients with debilitating schizophrenia.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

In an intake appointments she will ask a lot of questions about patients' psychiatric, medical, and social history. Sometimes a diagnosis can be made in one to several appointments. If things are more complicated than usual, she would have some working diagnosis and have follow up appointments. For treatment, some patients see her every week, multiple times a week depending on the need. Some medication management focused patients sees her once every 3 months.

Payment is due at the time of service. Patient can pay ahead or at the beginning of the appointment. Dr. Chiang receive payments through Zelle credit card, or HSA card. 1) For Aetna patients, an Aetna allowable of roughly 190$ will be required from patient for intake. A claim will be filed. It would take about 3 weeks for Aetna to process it. Whatever Aetna does not reimburse will become patient's responsibility. Whatever Aetna does reimburse, it would become patient's credit. 1) For self-pay patient, intake is 315$. There is a sliding scare for follow up appointments offered based on frequency of therapy and patients' financial needs. No medication will be prescribed, or follow up appointments made without the intake have been paid.
