About Melanie Fossinger
Melanie first became interested in caring for adolescents when she was in college on a service learning trip to Washington, D.C., where she volunteered at a youth-serving organization providing education and medical care to underserved teens.
After graduating from UNC Chapel Hill, she moved to Boston where she worked in a community health center as a youth worker and counselor for several years before obtaining her Master of Science in Nursing at the MGH Institute for Health Professions with a dual Nurse Practitioner (NP) certification. Following her training she started her NP career at Boston Medical Center. There she was a Primary Care Provider in the Adolescent Center administering comprehensive medical and mental health care to teens and young adults as well as an assistant professor of Pediatrics at Boston University.
Melanie also completed a year-long adolescent medicine fellowship at Boston Children’s Hospital during this time. Additionally, Melanie has worked treating substance use disorders in adults. Before moving back to North Carolina, Melanie worked for the Boston Public Health Commission running a school-based health center at a high school in Boston.
Melanie’s approach is warm and open. Her patients know her as someone who listens and respects their individual stories. Melanie understands that adolescence is a time of great transition and growth where deep relationships are crucial to building resilience and a fulfilled life. Melanie feels honored to work with you during this formative stage in your life and looks forward to meeting you!

Would recommend her highly! I was able to book her the day before - her office called to confirm the day before and ask if there were any questions. Melanie is so kind and intentional about the questions she asks and appreciated her pre-appointment questions. She was able to support me and feel grateful to have found her! Would recommend!
