Getting to know Michael Barnes
Hi! My name is Michael Barnes. I am a psychiatric/mental health nurse practitioner who is passionate about helping clients with their mental health needs. I have worked in numerous mental health settings, and I have experience with a wide range of mental health conditions. I am a retired Army Veteran and have a special interest in treating trauma and addiction.

If the answer is yes, then I am here to help. My approach to mental health is working with the client as a team incorporating a holistic approach to identify and treat the client's mental health needs.
I primarily work with adults with depressive disorders, anxiety disorders, bipolar disorders, OCD, ADHD (non-stimulant medications), and PTSD. I also have experience treating psychotic spectrum disorders.
I provide a communication approach that seeks patient's input in all aspects of care. From taking time to listen to patients to being available to address patient concerns between appointments, I believe the patient-provider relationship is a team approach.
The first session involves a thorough psychiatric evaluation, including a diagnostic assessment, gathering of psychiatric, psychosocial, family, and medical history, and the development of a treatment plan, which takes approximately 60 minutes. The subsequent follow-up appointments involve medication management and incorporated psychotherapy. Follow-up appointments typically last 20-30 minutes.

I would recommend doctor Micheal Barnes. He was very friendly and had a lot of good information to best navigate my health and symptoms. He was good about giving explaining everything and what meds work for what and how they can help with others meds. I would definitely recommend him. ??

Michael was very pleasant and patient with me from the very beginning! I have been dealing with so much for so long and he made it very easy to start opening up about difficult challenges I’ve been facing. We discussed so much in my first session; it was nice to begin the healing process. He also wrote me prescriptions to help me maintain my mental health. My appointment was confirmed a few hours after I sent the appointment request and I had my appointment the next day. Mr. Barnes has a calm demeanor and is an active listener. He asked the intake questions, listened closely, and asked follow up question when needed, but never inappropriately or speculatively. He was even early to my virtual appointment which was a delightful shock. I would definitely recommend him if you’re in the market for a new prescriber!
