Getting to know Dr. Michael Berler

Hello, My name is Michael Berler, Ph.D., and I am a psychologist from San Antonio. I earned my Ph.D. in Psychology from Alliant International University. I have a background in private practice and leadership roles at teaching hospitals in Houston and San Antonio. I define the process of therapy as a temporary, guided journey of healthy changes in a judgment-free zone. Another key element that specifically differentiates therapy is confidentiality. Confidentiality can be thought of as a "vault" containing anything and everything you tell me in our sessions. It remains locked in your vault, and only you have the combination. There are exceptions to confidentiality that we'll discuss during our first session. I combine the two most effective treatment models that have been empirically proven-meaning through effectiveness studies reported in the professional literature over many decades. The first model, Cognitive Behavior Therapy (CBT), examines the powerful domino effect between our thoughts, feelings, and behavior choice patterns. The other model I practice explores the biological origins of feelings and behaviors and how this domain interacts with the internal way we think of ourselves, impacting the important relationships in our lives, both inside and outside of our families. I look forward to and appreciate those who ask me to join them in their journey and their efforts to become the best possible version of their internal sense of self. Remember that the process of therapy is more like a marathon versus a sprint-although both have their own time intervals as well.

More information on payments and coverage

Payment is due after each session and will be charged with your card on file for any portion of patient responsibility. Receipts will be provided at the time of the charge. This typically takes place 2-4 weeks after the session, once your insurance has had a chance to process the claim. We try our best to verify eligibility, but it is ultimately your responsibility to check coverage and out-of-pocket costs for services. For out-of-network visits, you will be billed at the provider’s self-pay rate, and we can provide an invoice for you to submit to your insurance for potential out-of-network reimbursement based on your plan’s benefits.
