Dr. Michael Binder is a board-certified adult and adolescent psychiatrist with over twenty-five years of clinical experience. He earned his Doctor of Medicine from the University of Chicago, Pritzker School of Medicine, and completed his undergraduate studies at UCLA. Dr. Binder is the former Chairman of the Department of Psychiatry at Waukesha Memorial Hospital. An innovative clinician, he has devoted most of his career to direct patient care. Drawing from over 75,000 hours of clinical experience and decades of research into the causes of mental illness, Dr. Binder published the first comprehensive neurophysiological hypothesis of psychiatric disorders. He also perfected a treatment technique that increased his patient success rate from 60% to over 90%.
As a general adult and adolescent psychiatrist, Dr. Binder treats bipolar disorder, major depressive disorder, panic disorder, OCD, ADHD, PTSD, tic disorders, schizophrenia, eating disorders, and substance use disorders. He is equally skilled in psychotherapy for individuals, couples, and families. For patients likely to benefit from a combination of medication and psychotherapy, Dr. Binder first diagnoses and corrects abnormalities in brain function, then integrates psychotherapy as needed to address the whole person.
In 2012, Dr. Binder established the Binder Foundation, dedicated to enhancing human life through research and education aimed at removing physical, emotional, and psychological barriers to personal fulfillment. After an initial assessment, the timing, duration, and type of each follow-up visit is based on the unique needs of the individual, thus allowing Dr. Binder to treat each patient as effectively and efficiently as possible.
What is your typical process for working with clients?
Comprehensive evaluation followed by psychotherapy, medication, or a combination of the two based on appropriateness and mutual agreement with the patient.

Billing Policy: All charges are based on time spent providing professional services whether in the office or on the telephone. Evaluation fee: 45min - $550 (plus $100 for each additional 15 min). Follow-up appointments: 15 min - $200 (plus $100 per each additional 15min). An additional $25 per 15 minutes will be applied to couples and multiple person sessions. The same applies to after hours emergency calls between 10:00pm and 7:00am.
