Michael Bontekoe is a nationally board-certified Physician Assistant and has been in practice since 2001.
Michael Bontekoe, MS, PA-C, joined The Roxbury Institute in 2016 and specialized in medical and cosmetic dermatology. He has been in practice since 2001 after spending 8 years at Central Michigan University. He completed his medical training at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center and various private practices throughout the Los Angeles area.
Since then, he has been in private practice specializing in dermatology. In 2003, he began serving as the sole dermatology provider for AIDS Healthcare Foundation-Los Angeles, treating thousands of medically complex dermatology patients. He has a passion for clinical research and staying up-to-date on the newest treatments available. He has served on advisory boards and has worked with pharmaceutical companies to develop new medications in the dermatology field.
He has appeared on television programs for the TLC network, is a contributor writer for dermatology articles, has taught university graduate students, and presented case studies at national dermatology conferences.
Michael Bontekoe currently sees a wide realm of dermatology patients, both adults and children 12 years and older, in the clinic. He has special areas of interest, including acne, rosacea, acne scarring, pre-cancerous lesions, the use of cosmeceutical skincare products in dermatology, Botox injections, and using lasers for sun damaged and aging skin. He's an integral part of our incredible team and is not only an expert but is highly compassionate and works closely with our patients and the other doctors at The Roxbury Institute.

His skin checks are the most thorough I’ve ever experienced—something that means the world to me, given my family history of skin cancer. Michael strikes the perfect balance between being cautious and measured, ensuring nothing unnecessary is removed while addressing anything concerning.

It was weird. I showed up and I was 8 minutes late but the receptionist was in no rush. I asked her if I could go put money in my meter to make sure I had enough and she said, sure, fine. I got back at 4:45. I filled out paperwork. It was more of a plastic surgeon’s office rather than a medical office. Ads for Botox and fillers and breast augmentation were everywhere. I finished my paperwork and waited about 10 minutes. Then at 5:00, a nurse came out and said the doctor had to leave and couldn’t see me. That was it. So I left. It wasted two hours of my day to drive where I came from and then go back home. Overall, I felt uncomfortable and I don’t think it’s a fit for me and it seemed unprofessional to have a plastic surgeon’s nurse practitioner do screenings for cancer. I think I’ll choose an office that is more dedicated to oncology and dermatology rather than aesthetics.

I have fair skin and have experienced Actinic Keratosis on my arms and forehead for several years. I booked an appointment with Dr. Bontekoe so that he could look at some recent areas for which I had some concern.
He took time to listen to my experience with the spots and he also examined them as well as other areas on my hands, arms shoulders, neck and face. He let me know that there were a couple of spots he felt should be treated. I agreed and the process was very easy. He is a good listener and communicates clearly before performing any procedures. I felt that I was in very good hands.
I will also say that the office staff was very friendly from the front desk to the assistant whom took me to the exam room.
