He has held senior leadership positions in the University of Maryland Medical System, including CEO at Kernan Hospital (now UMROI) and Chief Medical Officer at the University of Maryland Medical Center. He is trained as an Internal Medicine physician, having earned his Doctor of Medicine from Duke University and completed his residency at the University of Maryland Medical Center. He is a member of the American Association for Physician Leadership and a Fellow of the American College of Physicians.
