Getting to know Dr. Michael Underriner

Dr. Underriner is an adult psychiatrist whose approach to treatment is holistic, taking into account the entire person. He emphasizes the importance of the therapeutic bond to help people reduce suffering and achieve their goals. He is a member of the Gold Humanism Honor Society.
Dr. Underriner's practice focuses on a mix of medication management, offered alongside supportive therapy in 30-minute follow-up visits, and insight-oriented psychotherapy, offered in weekly 45-minute sessions. He works with people struggling with ADHD, depression, anxiety, obsessive-compulsive and related disorders, as well as difficulties with self-esteem and relationships.
He received his Doctor of Medicine from the University of Chicago Pritzker School of Medicine and completed his residency in psychiatry at New York University. During his training, he gained experience treating patients with a variety of psychiatric illnesses in several clinics and hospital-based settings. Dr. Underriner has maintained an interest in teaching and remains connected to the psychiatry department at NYU. He has supervised and taught junior residents and medical students. Additionally, he is interested in global health and disparities in access to care and has traveled to Ghana to teach medical students rotating through psychiatry at the university there.

Because we accept insurance, we can reduce out-of-pocket expenses and still offer high-quality care. You may not have any cost related to your visit with us, depending upon your insurance plan. Most patients pay a small copay per visit, subject to any deductible or coinsurance that your health plan has. The Center for Medicare and Medicaid Services determines appropriate billing guidelines. These guidelines depend on the length of the visit and the complexity and severity of your diagnosis. For this reason, we need to wait until after the visit for the final determination. We then submit the claim to your insurance company. The charges are calculated based upon pre-negotiated prices with your insurance company. Your insurance company will then determine what amount, if any, is your responsibility per your insurance plan.

Unfortunately the Dr. could not help me with what I needed as what I needed was medication and someone to listen to me. After going through the whole history list of dysfunctions and trauma in my life that I was gladly to divulge, I was met with I can not help you, maybe I could refer you to someone else without a reason why. I felt rejected at this point. Was it my job to ask why he could not help or was it his job to explain why he could not help me, or why he wanted to pass me to someone else, still unclear. I can get pills from anyone, but this time I was hoping some one would really listen to me or at least try.
