Getting to know Dr. Michele Schaefer
Dr. Schaefer is board certified in adult psychiatry and has been practicing for over 16 years.
Dr. Schaefer's practice focuses on medication management, offered in conjunction with supportive therapy and elements of cognitive-behavioral therapy. Most follow-up visits are 30 minutes, and if additional therapy is needed, a therapist may be brought into the care team to provide the best outcome.
She received her medical degree from the University of Nebraska Medical Center in Omaha, NE, and completed her adult psychiatry residency at the Oregon Health and Science University in Portland, OR. She then moved to New Haven, CT to complete a forensic psychiatry fellowship at Yale University. She worked as a staff psychiatrist at the Atrium Health system for over 16 years.
While Dr. Schaefer has treated a wide variety of patients, her primary focus is treating depression, anxiety disorders and OCD.

Because we accept insurance, we can reduce out-of-pocket expenses and still offer high-quality care. You may not have any cost related to your visit with us, depending upon your insurance plan. Most patients pay a small copay per visit, subject to any deductible or coinsurance that your health plan has. The Center for Medicare and Medicaid Services determines appropriate billing guidelines. These guidelines depend on the length of the visit and the complexity and severity of your diagnosis. For this reason, we need to wait until after the visit for the final determination. We then submit the claim to your insurance company. The charges are calculated based upon pre-negotiated prices with your insurance company. Your insurance company will then determine what amount, if any, is your responsibility per your insurance plan.

I greatly appreciated meeting with Dr. Schaefer as I found her be informative, helpful, and kind. I felt as though she knew exactly what I had been going through (in terms of Insomnia) and how much anxiety plays a role in my daily life. With Dr. Schaefer's help I think I will finally be able to get a good night's rest! I would highly recommend her!

While it might seem like a strange way to meet with a doctor this went very very well and that was due in no small part to Dr. Schaefer - her personality, her professionalism, her sensitivity and her expertise. I am having some trouble with my prescription. I have some evidence that it was called in to Walgreens on Dickerson Avenue in Monroe, NC but today three days later they have no record of it. Okay so now what do I do.? Who do I call? FB

Michele is very friendly and personable. She is also a great listener and very thorough with her assessment. I was worried about being on medication but she made me feel better about it and reassured me. I'm glad to have her as my psychiatrist and would certainly recommend her!
