Getting to know Dr. Milos Starovic
I created this practice to meet the need for a unique and personalized yet scientific, evidence-based, and sophisticated pharmacological treatment, with attention to detail and enough time for human-to-human contact to happen and for the therapeutic process to unfold. I earned my Doctor of Medicine from the University of Belgrade Faculty of Medicine, completed my Psychiatry residency at Maimonides Medical Center, and pursued fellowships in Psychotherapy and Psychoanalysis at New York University, as well as in Electroconvulsive Therapy at Columbia University.
**This practice is OUT OF NETWORK and does not participate with any major insurance carriers.** We will provide all required receipts and codes in the form of a "superbill" that you might need to be reimbursed according to your health plan's out-of-network benefits.
What should a new client know about working with you?
Each appointment combines scientific and evidence-based pharmacological management together with a psychotherapeutic process.
My goal is to properly assess the situation, provide diagnostic and therapeutic recommendations and empower you by guiding you through your options and helping you make the best possible decision for yourself.
My therapy style is warm and welcoming, combining the principles of psychodynamic, cognitive-behavioral, and interpersonal therapy.

What is your typical process for working with clients?
The first appointment can be very anxiety-provoking. My first task is to ease this tension, make you completely comfortable, and facilitate constructive communication. Our discussion might appear casual, but it is actually quite structured and probing for a variety of signs and symptoms that will help us establish a correct diagnosis. I will be interested in all the details of your current problem but also expand the conversatio and ensure that includes your background, medical history, and all other important aspects of existence. This will help me understand in the best possible way who you are, what is happening in your life and in what context your symptoms tend to occur. Life is rarely black or white so we will be discussing the diagnostic impression together and strategizie what would be the best course of action moving forward. It is important for me to hear all of your concerns and respond accordingly. There are many roads to Rome so I will be identifying multiple treatment modalities all of which should be in line with good medical practice. Then we will make choices and adjustments according to your personal needs and preference. I will address all of your questions and concerns making sure that by the end of our appointment you are heard, understood, and with a clear understanding of what lies ahead.

Doctor is professional yet easy going. It was seamless to use text messaging in order to to confirm the appointment. I came for a follow up and doctor appeared really content that I am getting better. He discussed few further treatment options and asked me which one one would I prefer as a second step. I feel like I am in control. I am not pushed neither told what to do. I can decide what I want. Just along the way there is someone very smart helping me decide and explaining why certain options could be bad or very good for me . I like it and I am sure to come back every time I am in the area.
