Getting to know Dr. Monica Argumedo
My name is Dr. Monica Argumedo, and I started 1st Response Psychiatry in order to support and treat first responders and healthcare workers. First responders and healthcare workers are passionate about their roles even though they work in high-risk and high-stress environments. This constant stress leads to mental health challenges that may affect their well-being both at work and at home. They deserve the proper care and support they need to navigate these challenges, so that they can be at their best.
As a psychiatrist with years of experience I offer evidence based treatment with medications and therapy. My goal is to provide personalized, and compassionate care to help first responders and healthcare workers regain control of their mental well-being. I understand the passion you bring to your work. I believe that with the appropriate support you can thrive and be at your best, even with the high-stress you face daily. What should a new client know about working with you?
Years of working as a psychiatrist in a variety of settings and roles has shown me the importance of an individualized and client-centered approach to providing mental health care. Through 1st Response Psychiatry I have the freedom and flexibility to focus on my client's individual needs for mental health treatment.
1st Response Psychiatry is ideal for clients who are looking for a more personalized approach to mental health care and want a psychiatrist who will take the time to get to know them and work with them to find the right treatment plan.
What is your typical process for working with clients?
I have a curiosity filled approach to an initial consultation with a new client. I try to get to know them as much as possible and develop a good understanding of their needs for mental health treatment. My style tends to be conversational, calm, and judgement free, as I believe that allows clients to be more comfortable and open to sharing about themselves.
Once I develop a better understanding of their current concerns and needs, I discuss with each client my thoughts on a potential diagnosis and options for treatment. I do use some screening tools to assess for different common psychiatric issues. Most of these screening tools are completed before the initial consultation, and some are completed during or after the consultation.
If I recommend a medication and the patient is agreeable to starting the medication, then I will provide a prescription for that medication. I also set up a follow up appointment with a client to see if the treatment is helping them or if it needs to be adjusted or changed. I make sure the client understands that they should contact me immediately with any concerns about their treatment.

Dr. Argumedo is the best psychiatrist that I have worked with for many reasons. From my very first appointment, I felt heard and respected. She takes the time to really listen and understand what I'm experiencing, rather than rushing through appointments.
What stands out most is Dr. Argumedo's ability to explain treatment options clearly and involve me in decisions about my care. She is incredibly knowledgeable, and also recognizes that I'm the expert on my own experience. The medication management has been thoughtful and carefully monitored, with regular check-ins about how things are working.
