Natasha Hochberg, MD, MPH, is an Associate Professor in the Department of Medicine (Section of Infectious Diseases) at BU School of Medicine and in the Department of Epidemiology at BU School of Public Health. Dr. Hochberg earned her Bachelor's from Harvard University, her MD from Case Western Reserve University, and her MPH from Emory University. She completed her Infectious Diseases Fellowship at Emory University. Before Boston University, she was an Epidemic Intelligence Service (EIS) officer at the CDC in the Division of Parasitic Diseases, working internationally on malaria, visceral leishmaniasis, guinea worm disease, and lymphatic filariasis. Her research focuses on tropical diseases, especially the impact of malnutrition and parasitic disease on tuberculosis (TB), tropical diseases in immigrant populations, and disease prevention in international travelers. She is principal investigator of the TB LION study (Learning the Impact Of Nutrition) in Pondicherry, India, which evaluates how malnutrition and parasite infections affect immune response to TB and changes after providing high-protein food, multivitamins, and deworming. She is also site principal investigator of the US-Indo RePORT study in Pondicherry, a cohort of 1,100 TB patients and 1,500 household contacts, aiming to identify biomarkers predicting TB treatment failure and risk of TB among exposed persons, and how comorbidities like diabetes and helminth infections modulate these risks. Additionally, she is a co-investigator on an R01 study examining TB in pregnancy in India, investigating TB drug pharmacokinetics during pregnancy, neonatal outcomes, and diagnostic testing for latent TB infection in pregnant women.
