Getting to know Neil Tournoux
There is something you must always remember: You are braver than you believe, stronger than you seem, and smarter than you think.
I became a psychiatric mental health nurse practitioner after working for five years as an inpatient psychiatric nurse. I earned my Master’s in Psychiatric Mental Health Nursing from Ohio State University, which deepened my knowledge and skills in this specialty. I am proud of my profession in nursing, as I believe nurse practitioners bring a unique perspective to mental health care. A kind and compassionate bedside manner and effective listening skills are values I developed early in my career, and I feel comfortable making connections with people from any background.
I provide sessions grounded in respect and nonjudgment, and what I find most rewarding is when a client tells me I made them feel comfortable sharing their experiences. I am honored to be a part of your wellness journey!
What should a new client know about working with you?
Often there can be a disharmony when starting therapy or medications with one provider, while seeing another professional for a different service. I am a provider who offers both therapy services along with medication management if needed. My clients value and navigate this integration with confidence and trust, finding it more effective in creating a robust toolbox than either of these services if provided alone.
I am experienced in grief therapy, cognitive behavioral therapy, mindfulness-based therapy for emotional regulation and self-esteem development.
I emphasize and teach the principle of mindfulness as a cognitive behavioral therapy in conjunction with managing your medication as appropriate. I believe both medication and the exploration of thought patterns are valuable tools that help to empower the individual in managing their mental health.
I believe that increasing present-moment awareness is invaluable when confronting difficulties such as intrusive thoughts, panic attacks, difficulties with focus, and self-esteem. I utilize mindfulness as the basis of much of my treatment, and explore how what we believe to be true, and what we reject as untrue can both shape our physical reality in very significant ways.
What is your typical process for working with clients?
I provide sessions that are surrounded by respect and an atmosphere of non-judgment. What I find most rewarding is when a client says that I made them feel comfortable with sharing their experiences with me.
I am a proponent of utilizing both evidence-based therapies and working with you to explore medication options if desired. I offer therapeutic-processing sessions to unpack any topic with you that you are interested in exploring.
I am honored to be a part of your wellness journey!

More information on payments and coverage
Payment is due after each session and will be charged with your card on file for any portion of patient responsibility. Receipts will be provided at the time of the charge. This typically takes place 2-4 weeks after the session, once your insurance has had a chance to process the claim. We try our best to verify eligibility, but it is ultimately your responsibility to check coverage and out-of-pocket costs for services. For out-of-network visits, you will be billed at the provider’s self-pay rate, and we can provide an invoice for you to submit to your insurance for potential out-of-network reimbursement based on your plan’s benefits.

For so long I struggled to find someone who actually listened to me. Someone who didn't dismiss me but put the power back into my hands and for that I am forever grateful.

Neil is exactly what I wanted in a mental health provider. He cares about me as a person, and I don’t feel like I am just another patient to him like all my past doctors made me feel. Neil listens and makes me feel comfortable to the point I have opened up about my deepest scars and wounds which is what I needed because it will lead to healing. Mental health truly is a journey and Neil has helped me realize that and see things in a different viewpoint. I never feel rushed, and I always feel so much more hopeful and optimistic about my life and future. I love the simple advice he has given me, he listens to me and KNOWS how to help me no matter what life throws at me. I just want to say thanks to Grow Therapy and to Neil himself, you have given me motivation, hope, security, and the confidence to move forward onto a brighter happier future (leaving the negativity from the past behind).

Best practitioner I have ever known!!! Most compassionate and understanding provider, with a tasteful sense of humor and a high level of feeling seen and heard. Very therapeutic sessions and as long as you are real with him he will return the same and help you any way he can. Truly need more people like Neil in our medical system!

From the very first session, I felt that Neil helped me feel comfortable and less anxious about being open and, more importantly, being myself. What started as an informational session about an ADHD diagnosis led to taking the proverbial leap into regular therapy sessions. I think there is also something to be said about his ability to constructively validate (for lack of a better term); going beyond telling me that I am right all the time or that every thought I have is justified. He creates a safe space for me to express whatever I am feeling/thinking, even if I don't give him much to work with, and builds a conversation where I am being heard, challenged to think deeper, and motivated to be better. For anyone questioning whether or not they should consult a therapist (trust me, I've been there), I can personally say that you 100% should - it's liberating! Therapy is not for crazy people, it's a fresh perspective and ongoing process that teaches us new ways to take care of our mind/body/soul that we've most likely been deprived of while also unlocking new pathways to help us continue the pursuit of becoming better versions of ourselves. As I get down from my soapbox, I will say that it is people like Neil who help alter the black-cloud-of-a stigma surrounding therapy - So, thanks, Neil!

Neil has helped me more than any other therapist ever has. He understands my condition, and doesn't make me feel judged for it.

Neil was AMAZING. I have tried many doctors, and he is the ONLY one who actually LISTENED, and empathized with no judgement. He actually gave me HOPE that I could get better with his help. It honestly felt like a miracle. He was a Godsend

Neil is a phenomenal psychiatrist, he is very astute and he genuinely cares what you're on instead of just pushing meds. He listened to my story and honed in that I was on a med that was messing me up.
