Getting to know Dr. Nina Jacobs
Dr. Nina Jacobs is a board-certified child, adolescent and adult psychiatrist in practice for over 20 years. She attended the University of Chicago, Pritzker School of Medicine and completed her adult, child and adolescent training at NYU School of Medicine. She has additional training in psychodynamic psychotherapy at New York Psychoanalytic Institute. Dr. Jacobs believes understanding and compassion are fundamental to the doctor-patient relationship. With an engaged, optimistic style, she provides attentive, patient-centered care to reduce troubling symptoms and restore well-being. Treatment includes a comprehensive evaluation, thoughtful medication management as indicated, supportive therapy and the development of stress management skills.
Dr. Jacobs works with youth ages 13-17 and adults with anxiety, depression, bipolar, ADHD, PTSD as well as other mental health issues. With teens, parents are included during a portion of appointments to discuss treatment and progress. Before coming to Talkiatry, Dr. Jacobs served as Chief of Adult Behavioral Health a busy urban community health clinic. In her free time, Dr. Jacobs loves to spend time in nature, read, listen to audiobooks, and relax at home with family, friends, her dog and her sweet but temperamental cat. Dr. Jacobs believes in the resilience of the human spirit and is dedicated to assisting patients to achieve their treatment goals.

Because we accept insurance, we can reduce out-of-pocket expenses and still offer high-quality care. You may not have any cost related to your visit with us, depending upon your insurance plan. Most patients pay a small copay per visit, subject to any deductible or coinsurance that your health plan has. The Center for Medicare and Medicaid Services determines appropriate billing guidelines. These guidelines depend on the length of the visit and the complexity and severity of your diagnosis. For this reason, we need to wait until after the visit for the final determination. We then submit the claim to your insurance company. The charges are calculated based upon pre-negotiated prices with your insurance company. Your insurance company will then determine what amount, if any, is your responsibility per your insurance plan.

I just wanted to let you know you were the most unhelpful “doctor” I’ve ever seen. I came in with a clear history of depression and a straightforward and simple request for anti depressants. We spent an hour on the first appointment discussing many details of my life in a more psychologist way rather than psychiatry which is fine. You concluded you need more time to come up with a plan for me. We did a second appointment, I answered further questions more about my life and family and didn’t really discuss the goal, which was of course medication for depression. At the end of the appt you tell me your not the right fit and remind me to call 911 if I have a mental health emergency lol. I mean, thanks I think we’re all aware of that. Im not having an emergency, I just wanted medication. Now being asked for an absurd amount of money for 90 mins of your time. If you have any interest in actually helping me please do the right thing and tell talkiatry to cancel the bill.
