Getting to know Dr. Nirupama Tamirisa
PLEASE NOTE, DR. TAMIRISA DOES NOT TREAT ADULT ADD/ADHD. She does treat all pediatric/adolescent conditions including ADD/ADHD, focusing on non-stimulant options first and using stimulants only when necessary. She works with people of all ages, and has always had an affinity for helping younger patients. Born in India and educated in Dubai, she completed her medical studies in the United Arab Emirates, where she was initially interested in pursuing pediatrics. Her focus would shift to mental health later in medical school. “I was always interested in adolescent and childhood mental health issues, including autism,” she recalls. While working and meeting with child psychiatrists during her residency at St. Louis University Hospital, she focused her interest on adolescent psychiatry. In 2018, She completed her studies in child and adolescent psychiatry from the University of Texas Health Science Center in San Antonio and almost immediately started working with patients online. “I was working in telemedicine before Covid. It felt like a great option to be able to do what I love professionally, and be able to be present for my son. I felt I could reach a broader range of patients in different states and be part of different settings of care from my home office. In the future, Dr. Tamirisa plans to work remotely and continue to care for my patients from wherever she is. When she isn’t caring for patients and her family, Dr. Tamirisa enjoys taking on new hobbies, which center around the kitchen. “I enjoy dabbling in cooking and making Indian, Thai, Mediterranean, and other cuisines with a vegan twist.”

It’s possible that my ecstatic review comes on the heals of two really bad experiences in a short period time prior, but I don’t think so.
She was extremely attentive, asked pointed questions and had detailed knowledge of the current meds that I had been taking, plus a plan for the future. After me telling her my information, she was able to really summarize me and discuss effective treatment options.
I would highly recommend her!

The experience has been chaotic which is not we needed. First, ZocDoc changed my appointment time then the practice changed the appointment time. It was chaotic from the beginning. Then after I researched and spent a lot of time deciding which Dr. to pick I get told by the Dr. that she can’t prescribe all medications because she’s out of state. The Dr.’s summary does not say that at all. I felt very deceived. We have the appointment and that’s when she says she can’t prescribe everything and a treatment plan is agreed on. Well, 2 days have gone by and no prescription or communication from the Dr. This whole experience has been a mess and chaotic.
