Nkechi Ukomadu, PMHNP

Family Psychiatric & Mental Health Nurse Practitioner
OR
Hi there, I'm Nkechi! Greetings. My name is Dr. Nkechi Ukomadu, and I am a certified Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner PMHNP-BC with DNP. I have been practicing for over 4 years. I am based in Houston Texas and work with psychiatric mental health patients statewide via telehealth. I have dual certification that includes certified Family Nurse Practitioner. My approach My approach to mental healthcare is a holistic approach which includes mind, body and spirit. The disease of the mind is the disease of the body. So, during the initial evaluation both mental and medical aspects of a patient’s health will be evaluated because the determinant factors of mental health affect the medical status of the patients also. My focus My population in focus is from age 13 up. I work with children, adolescents, adults and the elderly. Children 13 years old till age 17 are accompanied by their parents or caretaker. I specialize on patients with ADHD, Anxiety, Major Depressive disorder, Bipolar disorder, Schizophrenia, Obsessive compulsive Disorder, Oppositional defiant Disorder, Eating Disorder, Dysregulation Mood, Disorder, Sleep Disorder, PTSD, Anger management, Gender Dysphoria. Grief, Borderline Personality Disorder, Addiction etc My communication style I listen more to my patients than speaking because interruption in communication can affect the pertinent information needed to plan patients' treatment. The patients or caregivers are given the opportunity to contribute to their plan of treatment. The patients are politely redirected to focus on the main reason for the visit when they tend to drift away. I make the environment comfortable and relaxing and unjudgmental. My journey to mental healthcare My journey to become a mental healthcare provider started when I did house call as a family nurse practitioner for the patients’ medical need.
