About Dr. Olufolakemi (Kemi) Awe
Dermatologist and Mohs Micrographic surgeon, Dr. Olufolakemi “Kemi” Awe graduated from the University of Maryland, Baltimore County (UMBC) with a Bachelor of Science in Biochemistry, receiving many scholarships and awards including the award for the top researcher in Biochemistry, and elected to Phi Beta Kappa.
Dr. Awe pursued her MD/PhD at Indiana University in Indianapolis where she worked with one of the leading T-helper cell biologists in the country while pursuing her PhD in Immunology. During her graduate training, Dr. Awe was the recipient of many research awards and a highly competitive National Institute of Health (NIH) grant, which funded her graduate work. She also completed her one-year internship in general surgery.
Dr. Awe completed her dermatology residency at the University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB) followed by one year as a UAB Dermatology faculty member. She was a lead co-investigator for a NIH-funded project focused on novel topical therapies for improving sun-damaged skin and preventing skin cancer.
Following residency, Dr. Awe completed her fellowship in Mohs Micrographic surgery at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. She is a member of the American College of Mohs Surgery, the American Academy of Dermatology, and the American Society for Dermatologic Surgery. Dr. Awe provides a full range of dermatologic care including medical, surgical, and cosmetic dermatology services.

Dr. Kemi listened to my problem and examined me and was very through with her questioning. I’ve been to a few dermatologist and none have made me feel as heard as she has. I would hands down recommend her to any and everyone if you want someone specialized in colored skin. Other than that her office staff was very welcoming and upfront about any payments that might not be covered by insurance. If you have any concerns or questions about your skin I implore you to go and see Dr. Kemi and her amazing staff.

This decision was based on my colleague's remarks detailing clarity of communication, excellent bedside manner and knowledgeable friendly staff. I had high expectations and I am happy to say that all of my expectations were not only met, but exceeded. I get nervous when going to doctors and my fears were met with calm and reassuring attitudes allowing me to relax. The drive was well worth the quality of care I received. She listened attentively, addressed our concerns thoroughly, and communicated clearly with a deep sense of understanding. She acted promptly by taking samples for analysis to check for cancer and other potential issues. Prescriptions were provided for the problems identified, and a follow-up appointment was scheduled to monitor progress and continue with any necessary evaluations.
