Getting to know Dr. Oluwatoyin Sowunmi

Dr. Oluwatoyin Sowunmi is a DNP and board-certified family psychiatric & mental health nurse practitioner. She practices at Bridge Health and offers the convenience of virtual consultations. Dr. Sowunmi provides compassionate, evidence-based mental health care to patients of all ages. With over 15 years of nursing and mental health experience, she specializes in supporting individuals experiencing various mental disorders. Ms. Sowunmi graduated from Walden University with a master's degree in the field of family psychiatric and mental health nursing. Her practice philosophy centers on a holistic and integrative approach that combines therapy, medication management, and individualized care.

What should a new client know about working with you?

My style of care is collaborative, compassionate, and patient centered. I believe that therapy works best when you feel safe, respected, and truly heard, so I strive to create an environment where you can share openly without fear of judgment. During our sessions, I take time to understand your unique experiences, values, and goals. My approach is integrative I may use therapy, medication management, or a combination of both, depending on what best supports your needs. I also draw from evidence based practices while tailoring care to you as an individual, not just a diagnosis. You can expect me to listen closely, offer guidance, and work with you to develop a plan that feels realistic and meaningful. Together, we’ll focus not only on relieving symptoms but also on building skills and resilience to help you navigate challenges and move toward lasting healing and growth.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

During your first session, I’ll begin by getting to know you and your story. We’ll talk about what brought you in, your current concerns, your medical and mental health history, and your goals for care. I approach this as a conversation, not an interrogation you set the pace, and I make sure you feel comfortable as we explore your needs. This initial visit also includes a diagnostic evaluation, which helps me understand the full picture and guides the best treatment options for you. In follow-up sessions, we’ll review how you’ve been doing, discuss progress or challenges, and adjust your treatment plan as needed. Depending on your needs, our work together may include talk therapy, medication management, or a combination of both. My goal is to create a supportive space where you feel heard, respected, and actively involved in decisions about your care. Each session is an opportunity to check in, gain clarity, and build the tools that will help you move toward healing and balance

    Very empathetic, understanding and knowledgeable!
I would’ve liked to have given a good review but I’m going on over an hour waiting for this provider to join a session that she set up less than 28 hours ago which made it impossible to cancel. Now I’m sitting and waiting for no one while I have a little panic attack by myself. I’m sure this was all unintentional and purely by mistake but it’s just so unprofessional. And wasteful of my time
