He graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in English from Rice University, from McGovern Medical School for his medical doctorate, and went on to complete a Psychiatry residency at the University of Texas-Houston where he served as a chief resident. Afterward, he completed a fellowship in Consult-Liaison Psychiatry at Louisiana State University - Ochsner Medical Center in New Orleans.
Dr. Athar has experience in treating a wide variety of conditions, including Major Depression, OCD, Bipolar Disorder, ADHD, Eating Disorders, Anxiety Disorders, PTSD, Substance Use Disorders, Delirium, Dementia, and Mental Disorders due to Another Medical Conditions.
Dr. Athar primarily focuses on medication management in his practice but will typically also use supportive therapy and cognitive behavioral therapy skills with his patients in order to maximize wellness and recovery.
Dr. Athar has held an academic appointment at the University of Mississippi Medical Center where he was an Assistant Professor of Psychiatry. He served as the Clerkship Director for the Medical Neuroscience and Behavior Course during his appointment, the required six-week course for third-year medical students which included four weeks of Psychiatry education. During his appointment, Dr. Athar was also very active in resident education focusing on topics in Consult-Liaison Psychiatry.

Because we accept insurance, we can reduce out-of-pocket expenses and still offer high-quality care. You may not have any cost related to your visit with us, depending upon your insurance plan. Most patients pay a small copay per visit, subject to any deductible or coinsurance that your health plan has. The Center for Medicare and Medicaid Services determines appropriate billing guidelines. These guidelines depend on the length of the visit and the complexity and severity of your diagnosis. For this reason, we need to wait until after the visit for the final determination. We then submit the claim to your insurance company. The charges are calculated based upon pre-negotiated prices with your insurance company. Your insurance company will then determine what amount, if any, is your responsibility per your insurance plan.

Dr. Osman is an amazing doctor. I’ve seen multiple psychiatrists and therapist and he was the first that I felt like truly understood me and my problems. I finally feel like there is hope to my struggles and I’m very glad I choose Dr. Osman. He was very knowledgeable and easy to talk to and extremely helpful with my issues. So far my experience has been great. I was a little bit nervous at my first appointment but by the second one I was totally comfortable and had no problem sharing information with Dr. Athar. He’s very understanding, helpful, and empathetic. Looking forward to my next visit!

Doctor, Athar has change my life drastically positive. I was in my deepest darkest depression before I met him and he has pulled me out of it along with helping my ADHD. If I could send my adhd friends to him I would!
