Getting to know Paula Gravitt

Hello! I'm Paula Gravitt, a Board-Certified Child and Adolescent Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP). I’m not your average prescription-pusher; think of me as a mental health detective committed to understanding the whole picture with compassion and a little humor. My passion is fueled by lived and professional experience. As a nurse, I worked the front lines in an inpatient pediatric unit (Virginia Treatment Center for Children), gaining an intensive view of crisis care. I continued serving patients at the Children's Hospital of the King's Daughters (CHKD) before founding my own clinic, dedicated to delivering the most thorough, patient-centered care possible. Specialties & Approach I help kids, teens, and families navigate complex challenges. My focus includes: Neurodevelopmental: Autism, ADHD Behavioral: Challenging Behaviors, OCD, Non-Suicidal Self-Injurious Behaviors Emotional: Anxiety, Depression Family/Identity: Parenting, Parent-Child Communication, LGBTQ+ mental health. My philosophy is integrative and extremely thorough. I look at the whole picture: the patient's mental/medical health, environments, family dynamics, and friendships. Our initial appointments are intentionally lengthy because I prioritize being comprehensive. I believe in medication only when necessary, not as a first resort. When prescribing, I focus on patient education and am always thinking about deprescribing down the road. Teamwork is Key Treatment is a team effort between me, the patient, and their parent/caregivers. Medication doesn't work alone; therapy must be a component of care. I actively coordinate with all other providers to ensure everyone is on the same page. If you seek a compassionate, comprehensive, and dedicated PMHNP committed to a truly holistic approach, let's connect!
