Getting to know Dr. Peter Longa
I am a compassionate and empathetic healthcare provider based in Hackettstown, NJ. At present, I offer in-person and virtual appointments at Longa Health Services, LLC. I like to collaborate with my clients to figure out how to navigate the challenges of these life/world. We tackle this through therapy (working on problem solving skills and development of better coping skills) as well as pharmacotherapy (medications) as the last resort.
I earned my doctoral degree in nursing practice from Rutgers University in 2012. A master's degree from family medicine from Rutgers. And a postgraduate certificate in behavioral and mental health from Wilkes University in Pennsylvania.
I am doubled boarded as a Family NP Psychiatric Mental Health NP. However, I have focused on mental and behavioral health for more than twelve years. of experience in the psychiatric field. I am very flexible in accommodating my clients appointments to lessen the stress on them.
I offer support for many mental and behavioral health challenges ranging from self-image, self-esteem/self-worth, accomplishment/career worries, drug/alcohol addictions, relationship conflicts, stress in life, and overall well-being.
To recap, I emphasize psychotherapy and psychopharmacology based on the client's current state and preferences. I value my clients' perceptions by listening to them. Additionally, I share recommendations with my clients on self-care, exercise, nutrition, good relationships, spirituality, belief in something extraordinary, positive self-talk, etc. based on the latest research that is peer reviewed.
What should a new client know about working with you?
Compassionate, collaborative, and non-judgmental care. The patient is in charge of his care, and I am here to provide my professional and experienced guidance during this journey to a better version of you.
What is your typical process for working with clients?
My typical process begins with intake, which involves discussing the history of the chief complaint. This is the time we get to know each other.
Talk therapy is the initial approach, and pharmacotherapy is the last resort. However, in a few cases, pharmacotherapy may be the initial treatment if the patient is in distress. In this case, talk therapy comes in later. Both treatment approaches have also been used concurrently.

I never received any info after booking the appointment. When that appointment time came and the doctor never showed, I called the office number listed on my email confirmation. He had no idea I had an appointment and was completely unaware of the fact he was on the Zocdoc booking appointments. He said he was driving, which it did sound like he was, and asked if he could call me when he stops. I said yes, that would be fine, he gave me the impression he was going to pull over ASAP and give me a call back. However, it's been over two hours. And I have not heard from the doctor. I wasted my whole day waiting for this appointment then waiting for him to call me back like he said he was going to. So, not only was my time wasted, I never got the medical care I needed. Very disappointing. What made it worse was I could not book with another doctor because his appointment was still showing as pending. Now it is late in the day and can't find another Dr. that is available.
