Dr. Peter L. Mattei is a double board-certified dermatologist with specialized expertise in Mohs micrographic surgery — an advanced and highly effective technique for treating certain types of skin cancer. The procedure involves removing cancerous tissue layer by layer, with each layer examined microscopically by Dr. Mattei to ensure complete removal while preserving as much healthy tissue as possible. He has performed thousands of these surgeries with exceptional precision and care. Dr. Mattei completed a fellowship in Micrographic Surgery and Dermatologic Oncology and is a member of the American College of Mohs Surgeons. He also completed a Cosmetic Dermatologic Surgery Fellowship through the American Society of Dermatologic Surgeons. His dermatology residency was at The Johns Hopkins Hospital, and he holds dual board certifications in Dermatology and Micrographic Dermatologic Surgery. Before his residency, Dr. Mattei served as a clinical research fellow in dermatology at Massachusetts General Hospital and Harvard Medical School, conducting dermatologic clinical trials. A proud veteran, he served as a U.S. Air Force flight surgeon, deploying in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom and Operation Enduring Freedom. Dr. Mattei earned his undergraduate degree from The College of William and Mary and his medical degree from Drexel University College of Medicine. He has authored numerous peer-reviewed articles and book chapters in dermatology and dermatologic surgery.
