About Dr. Peter Zambito
My first experience volunteering in a local hospital emergency room during high school involved a patient with cardiac arrhythmia who was in extreme discomfort. The cardiologist administered a medication that helped the patient feel better immediately. I was impressed by the rapid results of the treatment and the swift improvement in the patient’s condition. This experience had a major impact on my decision to pursue cardiology.
I appreciate the vast array of diagnostic and treatment modalities in this field. It’s a challenging specialty that requires versatility—surgical skills, diagnostic skills, radiology, and ultrasound interpretation, to name a few. But what I most enjoy are the patient interactions in an area most patients consider critical to their overall health—their heart health. I am very aggressive in identifying and treating cardiac risk factors. I value patient input and believe it is important to explain in great detail what my diagnostic and therapeutic plans mean for their health and quality of life.
I aim to provide my patients with detailed information about their cardiac health and risk factors and to prevent complications of heart disease through aggressive, early treatment intervention. I consider myself very patient, especially when conveying difficult or emotionally charged information. I am comfortable with patients from many different cultures, a skill developed during my training at an inner-city hospital where I was exposed to diverse ethnic populations. It also helps that I speak Spanish fluently.
I earned my Doctor of Medicine degree from Albert Einstein College of Medicine of Yeshiva University and completed my residency in cardiology at the same institution.
Dr. Zambito is also an accomplished musician with over 25 years of training in piano/keyboards and singing, with experience in multiple music genres, including classical, jazz, American and Latin pop, and folk music.
