About Dr. Pia Prakash
Dr. Pia Prakash completed her medical training in Washington, D.C. She received her Bachelor in Arts and Sciences from The George Washington University with a major in Psychology. She then attended the George Washington University School of Medicine where she received her medical degree and completed her residency in Internal Medicine, and later went on to complete a fellowship in Gastroenterology and Liver Disease. Dr. Prakash was inducted into the Gold Humanism Honor Society in 2014. Over the past 7 years, she has taken part in extensive research in Inflammatory Bowel Disease, Celiac Disease, Colon cancer and Women's health. Dr. Prakash is a board certified Gastroenterologist.
A native of Maryland, Dr. Prakash was raised in Darnestown and lives in the area with her husband. She is passionate about providing the highest level of care and attention to her patients.

I was very dissappointed by the office staff noncommunication with me when I called one day prior to my resident appointment.
When my resident arrived she was turned away due to she didn't have the proper credentials, even though I called the day prior, I was told something different.
I will not have my resident's return to this office all because the day was wasted. Even though I'm quite sure the doctor have professional bed side manners. The office staff is lacking communication skills

I was in the office for almost 2 hours, with only about 15 minutes of that time spent with the doctor. You begin at one office on the first floor, wait, fill out paperwork then are sent to another office on the second floor where you wait, then fill out additional paperwork, then wait to be called back to the exam room for more wait time before seeing the physician. After time with the doctor, you are sent to check out where you again are in for significant wait time (enough that the receptionist asks you to take a seat and she will call you to check out). During checkout, I encountered a very rude blonde medical assistant, I believe, who interrupted my discussion with the receptionist to interject her comments, which were not necessary.
I was happy with the doctor, but I found the office staff to be slow, unknowledgeable regarding insurances and unaccomodating to patients.

Dr. Prakash was such a great listener. She really took time to get my medical history and address all of my concerns. I have been asking doctors for two years to perform a specific test to no avail, and she sent me home with this test! She was incredible, and I would recommend her to anyone.

Dr. Prakash is very friendly, compassionately, and knowledgeable. She seems genuinely concerned about her patients and invested in their wellbeing and recovery. She was even willing to make sure I got in for a quick procedure to determine the cause of my symptoms quickly, something other doctors have never been willing to do in the past. I am very happy with her and my experience!

I walked out when I hadn’t been seen 1 hour and 15 minutes after my appointment time. I had an afternoon meeting I needed to make. The providers are probably good because it was a very busy office…just too busy for me.

Office staff were super friendly. Didn’t wait very long till I was called to the back. Was seen by multiple nurses and the doctor, all who took my concerns very seriously and set up procedures and tests to find out what is wrong. They made sure I understood all the info they were giving me before I left and made me feel very comfortable. I am very lucky to have found this practice and this doctor!

Had an appt at 9:45 she came in at 10:30. Before my colonoscopy she asked if i wanted banding right before i went under anesthesia with no education. after my colonoscopy i went in for a follow up and she said i wasn’t feeling better because i wasn’t using anything for my hemmorhoids, even though nobody gave me information on what to use or when to use it after the procedure. doctors shouldn’t assume anyone’s knowledge on procedures or medications they should be educating their patients throughout this entire process.

I provided this exact feedback directly last week to Dr. Prakash's office. I have yet to receive a response...
"The best part of the experience was my PA, Adrienne Duncan, who was a rockstar - she was energetic, helpful, and responsive.
That said, the rest of my experience was particularly tough. Arriving at 3pm for my 3:15pm , I waited until 4:30pm to be seen. I first met w/ the nurse to give my background. Next, Dr. Castillo stepped in to ask for my background, but then realized he was in the wrong room. I then spent the rest of the time w/ Adrienne.
At ~5:10, Dr. Prakash arrived to say I should see the front desk re: scheduling a tele-health apt for 3-4 weeks out. She did not read my notes, ask questions, or provide guidance as the doctor.
I drove 2 hours, waited for 1.5 hours, and had the doctor spend zero meaningful time w/ me to opine on my health. As a first-time patient, this was a terrible experience and, but for my time w/ Adrienne, was a total waste of my time."

Dr. Prakash was lovely. She listened to me, talking with me as she was genuinely interested in my wellbeing, and gave me a short and long-term plan. I've been to a lot of doctors lately who have made me feel irrelevant, and it was so refreshing to not feel that way!
Everyone in the office was also lovely.
The wait was pretty long - like 45 minutes beyond my appointment time, but honestly, Dr. Prakash was worth the wait!
