Getting to know Dr. Pooja Tandon

**Please note that we do not take Medicare/Medicaid plans** Dr. Pooja Tandon is a highly skilled adult and geriatric psychiatrist. She provides virtual counseling services through her private practice. She is fluent in English and Hindi, and serves members of both communities. Dr. Tandon obtained her medical degree from Adam Mickiewicz University. She completed her residency at Creedmoor Psychiatric Center, another at NewYork-Presbyterian / Columbia University Irving Medical Center, and a general residency at Columbia University. Moreover, she is certified by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology. Her research work is published in the American Journal of Geriatric Psychiatry titled "Obstructive Sleep Apnea and Risk of Mild Cognitive Impairment in Older Adults with Depression." Dr. Tandon is dedicated to providing care that is thoughtful, compassionate, and genuinely centered around each individual. She believes that healing begins with understanding and takes the time to complete a thorough and meaningful evaluation before considering any treatment options. She wants every individual to feel informed, empowered, and actively involved in their care. She takes time to explain options clearly, answer questions, and offer steady guidance. Whether you are navigating complex mental health challenges or working to enhance overall well-being, she ensures a deep commitment to your long-term wellness.

What should a new client know about working with you?

My approach is gentle and conservative. I never assume medication is the right choice for everyone. Instead, I focus on truly getting to know each person—their story, their values, and their goals—so we can create a plan that feels both supportive and aligned with their unique needs. There is no one-size-fits-all path to wellness, and I strive to tailor care in a way that honors the whole person. **Please note that Medicare/Medicaid plans are not accepted**

What is your typical process for working with clients?

**Please note that Medicare/Medicaid plans are not accepted** Your first visit is a comprehensive psychiatric intake, designed to help me understand the full picture of your emotional, medical, and personal history. This allows me to make thoughtful, individualized recommendations rather than applying a one-size-fits-all approach. During your initial evaluation, we will discuss: • Your current concerns and what brought you to seek care • Past mental health and medical history • Medications you’ve tried in the past and how you responded • Physical health factors, lifestyle, sleep, stressors, and support systems • Your goals, preferences, and what you hope to achieve through treatment I take a conservative, intentional approach—medications are never assumed or rushed. Instead, we talk through all appropriate options, including non-medication strategies when suitable. I place a strong emphasis on patient education, making sure you fully understand potential treatments, benefits, and considerations. You will have space to ask questions, express your values, and make decisions at your own pace. The initial evaluation is a collaborative conversation, not a test or interrogation. My goal is for you to leave feeling heard, respected, and reassured that you have a partner in your care. Together, we create a personalized treatment plan that reflects your needs, preferences, comfort level, and long-term wellness.
