Getting to know Porsha Peterson

I am a Board-Certified Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner and a native of Los Angeles, California, the “City of Angels.” I have an extensive and diverse clinical background with over 17 years of experience, spending the bulk of my career in emergency nursing caring for individuals with psychiatric and medical emergencies. While working in the emergency department serving the underserved community, I was inspired to further my career and earned my Master of Science in Nursing with a focus in Psychiatric Mental Health Nursing, graduating Magna Cum Laude from Charles R. Drew University of Medicine and Science in 2020. I found my passion in behavioral health, and I love helping individuals suffering from mental illness. I am also very dedicated to decreasing the stigma of mental illness. I am currently a mid-level provider for the adolescent and adult outpatient population, where I find joy in educating and caring for my patients.

What should a new client know about working with you?

My approach to mental health is holistic, caring and individualized. My goal is to treat the whole person, not just the symptoms of mental illness. My focus is the mind-body/gut connection, nutrition, physical health, digestion health, sleep, and thought patterns to heal individuals at all levels as naturally as possible. In addition to prescribing medication, I also guide my patients on how to become healthier physically, mentally and spiritually.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

Payment is due after each session and will be charged with your card on file for any portion of patient responsibility. Receipts will be provided at the time of the charge. This typically takes place 2-4 weeks after the session, once your insurance has had a chance to process the claim. We try our best to verify eligibility, but it is ultimately your responsibility to check coverage and out-of-pocket costs for services. For out-of-network visits, you will be billed at the provider’s self-pay rate, and we can provide an invoice for you to submit to your insurance for potential out-of-network reimbursement based on your plan’s benefits.

If you have ADD/ADHD, I don’t recommend her at all. I’ve been diagnosed since I was a kid, and any other provider makes you take the standard test then continues with your normal treatment/medication. She not only had me take the test, but also had me contact my previous psychiatrist to send her their diagnosis, and then she didn’t even send my prescription through afterwords. I paid full price for an appointment where she did nothing but waste my time. I didn’t feel heard at all.

I immediately felt like I was in good hands during the appointment. We were able to directly address the issues I had brought up, and gave me extra resources. Not only did she listen but I felt heard. Would definitely recommend.

Porsha has helped me with my mood and the medication that is right for me. For a while I thought I would never find relieve or live a day without my mood swings controlling my everyday life, but with Porsha help I have been able to live a life that is more in my control.
Porsha is a kind, compassionate listener. If you feel the need to talk to someone but are hesitating, don't! Porsha is knowledgeable, non judgmental and extremely easy to talk to. I regret how long I waited to ask for help. If you're hesitating, just take the first step of booking the appointment, show up, and take it from there.

I had my first meeting with Porsha Peterson and she turned out to be a great find for my mental health medication needs. She took the time to listen to my history without judgment or criticism and was very friendly overall, I'm glad I'll be able to see her to maintain my prescriptions!

There was a problem with the video call and she as unable to connect with me that way. She said they were fixing it, but apparently not in time our video call, so she called me on the phone right away. It wasn’t ideal, I had a hard time hearing her at times due to the connection, but she was great, otherwise. Not her fault at all.
