Dr. Puja Kumar is trained in adult and child and adolescent psychiatry. She is a board-certified pediatrician who, after five years of pediatric practice, decided to pursue her passion in psychiatry.
Dr. Kumar provides medication management in conjunction with supportive therapy in 30-minute follow-up visits. In addition, she believes in taking a holistic approach to each patient and emphasizes the impact of lifestyle, parenting practices, and family dynamics in treatment.
Dr. Kumar completed her BSc at University of Calgary and received her medical degree from St. George's University in Grenada. She completed her residency in pediatrics at Maimonides Medical Center in NY, and went on to practice pediatrics with the MedStar Shah Medical Group in Maryland. Dr. Kumar received her training in child and adult psychiatry at University Hospitals Cleveland Medical Center.

Because we accept insurance, we can reduce out-of-pocket expenses and still offer high-quality care. You may not have any cost related to your visit with us, depending upon your insurance plan. Most patients pay a small copay per visit, subject to any deductible or coinsurance that your health plan has. The Center for Medicare and Medicaid Services determines appropriate billing guidelines. These guidelines depend on the length of the visit and the complexity and severity of your diagnosis. For this reason, we need to wait until after the visit for the final determination. We then submit the claim to your insurance company. The charges are calculated based upon pre-negotiated prices with your insurance company. Your insurance company will then determine what amount, if any, is your responsibility per your insurance plan.

Dr Kumar is a very knowledgeable and caring doctor. She is positive and forward thinking. I felt like I was in good hands and that my issues would be taken care of with time and care. I felt supported and optimistic at the end of the session. I would recommend her if you’re looking for a psychiatrist!
