About Dr. R Garrett Cynar
Dr. R. Garret Cynar is a board-certified Sleep & Family Medicine physician who strives to help people understand their medical conditions and proactively manage them for a better quality of life. He believes service to others as a physician is not just a profession but also a vocation he is fortunate to enjoy.
During his professional career as an adult medicine physician, Dr. Cynar developed a particular interest in diabetes, cholesterol, hypertension, and obesity management. His interest in diabetes and related conditions led him to obtain further board certification in Sleep Medicine. Dr. Cynar specializes in the diagnosis, treatment, and management of many adult sleep disorders including sleep apnea and insomnia. One of his foremost goals is to employ the many tools we have to prevent heart attacks and strokes among his patients.
Dr. Cynar was born on the East Coast and grew up in the Midwest. He decided to attend Loyola University in Chicago, Illinois for his undergraduate degree in english. Afterwards, he attended Indiana University School of Medicine for his medical degree. Dr. Cynar completed his Family Practice residency at Hinsdale Family Medicine Center in suburban Chicago. After graduation, he chose the warmer climate of Dallas to continue his medical career.
Dr. Cynar is married and enjoys international travel with his wife and son. He plays soccer every week and continues enjoying tennis with his best friend of nearly 40 years, whom he’s known since junior high school. Dr. Cynar’s other personal passions include literature, theatre, music, 20th-century history, and Dallas’ wide variety of wonderful foods.

Dr. Cynar’s bedside manners were by far my worst experience. In my 36 years of receiving care from a doctor I have never met someone so inconsiderate and condescending. Even with feedback the doctor did not provide satisfactory care or support to me as a patient in need.

Office staff was really unwelcoming and rude. Felt very unwelcome and they could not find me even though my appointment was confirmed and they literally called me to confirm prior to. Very pushy about the copay and I wanted my bill mailed to me after insurance finalized so that I was not overpaying for a dr office visit where I knew I was not planning on returning after my experience. Dr was actually really great straightforward and didn’t pussyfoot around my concerns but the office staff and the experience as a new patient was very poor.

I recently moved to TX and visited Dr. Cynar as a new patient to establish continuity of care. The moment I walked in, I was warmly welcomed by Dr. Cynar and his kind staff. Everyone was efficient and attentive throughout the entire process, and there was almost no wait after checking in despite a full clinic schedule. Dr. Cynar himself was thorough and knowledgeable, dedicating ample time throughout our encounter to explain his clinical insights and confirm my understanding. He is clearly a seasoned physician, and I had a great first experience.

Unlike my previous experience working with a sleep medicine doctor, after my previous doctor retired, this was so refreshing and positive. In the previous appointment, I was given an afternoon appointment, went in and signed in where there were already six people ahead of me waiting to be called. I arrived 10 minutes early. After one hour of waiting and only three patients in the waiting room went in, I asked what was taking so long and the receptionist asked if I would like to come back with a morning appointment. When I tried to reschedule, their office would not call back and other issues. Dr. Cynar was personable, attentive and thorough and explained any questions I had and I was seen within 10 minutes - around my actual appointment time. Staff was courteous and helpful and smiling!

Nice guy but seemed to already have a predetermined diagnosis before I could even fully explain my issues. And even as I tried to continue explaining, he just kept nodding and reverting back to his original solution. Not saying it was wrong or anything but I would have liked for him to just hear me out at least. And make his diagnosis based off of the issues I was trying to express.

I felt that he was drawing conclusions when speaking about my health issues. instead of listening to what my concerns are , lots of book knowledge but no compassion. Would highly not recommend. Was very disappointed.

Dr Cynar was very pleasant to talk with. I felt at ease immediately. Which is very nice when it’s the first appointment. He is a very good communicator and thorough in his questions. Going over my care plan with a mutual understanding of my needs was the best thing for me, also. I am glad he’s my new PCP.
