About Dr. Ramy Abukwaik
From a young age, I was drawn to the idea of alleviating suffering and improving the well-being of others, which inspired me to become a healthcare provider. This passion for helping people solidified my decision to pursue a career in medicine. I earned my Bachelor’s degree from Rutgers University, followed by my Doctor of Medicine from St. George’s University. I completed my residency in Internal Medicine at Long Island Jewish Forest Hills.
I chose internal medicine because it aligns with my desire to have a deep understanding of medicine while forming long-term relationships with patients. The ability to manage a wide variety of conditions and the intellectual challenge of diagnosing complex cases drew me to this specialty.
I connect with my patients by paying close attention to what they are saying—listening without interrupting, showing empathy, and validating their feelings and concerns.
Outside of the office, I enjoy spending time with family, playing basketball, exploring new places, and trying different foods.
My advice for patients is to stay active, eat a balanced diet, get enough sleep, be proactive about mental health, and manage stress.

This is not unique to this doctor but a bedside manner that made me feel I was an annoyance for being there. A refusal to look deeper into test results that concerned me followed by a refusal to explain why. No explanation as to why I don’t need bloodwork despite a doctor the day before insisting I need immediate bloodwork. I’m not saying he’s correct or incorrect, but I prefer to be spoken to with care and understanding and not made to feel like I’m insane for asking questions. He also had no answer for my accompanying symptoms and wouldn’t look deeper into the issue. Unfortunately this is a lot of doctors these days. A lot of them especially at conglomerates like Crystal run are overworked and don’t care very much.

Just not a great bedside manner, very nonchalant . I had to remind them that I was even in the room. He dismissed my symptoms telling me that I needed to be on the antibiotics longer. I mentioned another medication that I had taken previously to relieve the discomfort while urinating but he would not prescribe it.
