What should a new client know about working with you?

I provide medication management and psychotherapy for adults who suffer from Anxiety, Depression, Bipolar Disorder, OCD (Obsessive Compulsive Disorder) Adult ADHD, trauma-related disorders (PTSD- Post Traumatic Stress Disorder), thought and perception disorders (i.e. psychotic disorders like Schizophrenia and Schizoaffective Disorders). While each individual is unique in their biological makeup and the circumstances that challenge them, specialized clinical experience and Evidence-Based Psychiatry can help patients regain their optimal mental health and level of function. My goal is to deliver this optimal outcome to every patient in our clinic.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

In preparation for the initial consultation, patients will sign up to the patient portal "Luminello", using the invitation link sent to their email. Once signed up, all initial paperwork will be signed and/or filled by scrolling down the "Document" tab in the patient portal. All new patients will also sign the financial agreement and credit card authorization form via the email link from "Square", which is the credit card processing vendor. This is a safe way to pay for services without sharing your credit card information with others. Initial consultation is set for 50 minutes. The goal is to collect general information about all past mental health, medical, and social information. Pairing it with current symptoms, a list of diagnosis is offered. At the end of the initial consultation, the most effective treatment plan is formed, while taking into consideration evidence-based medicine, patient preferences, and limitations such as affordability of the most appropriate treatment options. This may include medication, psychotherapy, or both. When Psychotherapy is recommended, the best available match will be suggested. Some forms of psychotherapy may be offered by Dr. Friedman, and others may be referred to the network of psychotherapist Dr. Friedman collaborates with frequently, so the optimal treatment team work together to meet the patient's goals. Follow up appointment may be as brief as 20 minute long. However, psychotherapy to varying degrees is incorporated even with medication management. Based on clinical need, and patient-preference, follow up appointments may be scheduled for up to 45 minutes. Patients who are interested in formal, weekly psychotherapy are scheduled for 45 minute long appointments, and medication management may take place in some part of the appointment. Ultimately, appointment time and frequency are determined by the clinical need and patient-preference to optimize the outcome.
