What should a new client know about working with you?

Starting care with a new psychiatrist can feel daunting, especially if you have had difficult experiences in the past or have been struggling for a long time. Here is what you can expect at Houston Mind & Brain. Your first visit is a comprehensive psychiatric evaluation. We take the time to understand your full history — previous diagnoses, medications you have tried, what has helped and what has not, and what matters most to you in your care. We will not rush this conversation. After your evaluation, we will explain our thinking clearly and discuss all of your options. We believe you should understand exactly what we are recommending and why. If advanced treatments like TMS, Spravato, or ketamine are appropriate for your situation, we will walk you through how they work, what to expect, and what the evidence shows. If standard medication management or therapy is the right starting point, we will tell you that too. You will always have a point of contact on our team. Our staff is responsive, and we use a patient portal for communication, refills, and forms so that your requests are tracked and nothing falls through the cracks. We work with adults who have complex needs, treatment-resistant conditions, and histories that require careful thought. If that describes you, you are in the right place.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

Our process begins with a thorough evaluation — typically 60 minutes — in which Dr. Cho reviews your full psychiatric and medical history, prior treatments, current symptoms, and personal goals. This evaluation may include cognitive or psychological assessments depending on your presentation. From there, we develop an individualized treatment plan. For some patients this means optimizing medication management. For others it means pursuing interventional treatments such as TMS, Spravato, or ketamine therapy — often in combination. For patients interested in participating in clinical research, we may discuss active trials at our site. Treatment is not static. We monitor outcomes, adjust plans based on your response, and stay in close communication throughout your care. Follow-up visits are structured around your specific needs, whether that means weekly TMS sessions, monthly medication checks, or ongoing therapy. Our team coordinates all aspects of your care in one place. You will not be sent to multiple locations or passed between providers who do not communicate with each other. Everything happens at Houston Mind & Brain, with a single team that knows your history.
