What should a new client know about working with you?

Dr. Richard J. Corelli is a psychiatrist in Half Moon Bay, California and is affiliated with multiple hospitals in the area, including El Camino Health-Mountain View and Stanford Health Care-Stanford Hospital. What is your typical process for working with clients?

My area of expertise is in psychodynamic long-term outpatient psychotherapy with a Jungian orientation using dreams, symbolism, metaphor, myth, and fairy tales to understand and connect with the patient's unconscious archetypal processes. I often work in long-term therapy with borderline patients, dissociative disorders, severe character pathology, and post-traumatic stress disorders with an emphasis on transference & countertransference issues, therapeutic frame & boundary issues, and the structure and parameters of psychotherapy. I see psychotherapy as a journey and an alchemical transformative process affecting patient and therapist alike on many different levels. Other areas of interest: emergency psychiatry, psychopharmacology, eating disorders, alcoholism and ACA issues, and consultation regarding the stress of residency training and the transition to starting up in private practice. I am a graduate of Stanford University School of Medicine and the Stanford University Medical Center Department of Psychiatry Residency Program. I have been in private practice 45 years with offices in Palo Alto, Half Moon Bay and Pacifica. I also serve as an Expert Medical Reviewer for the Medical Board of California.
