Dr. Richard Smith served on staff at Winthrop University Hospital for eight years, where he directed the Echocardiography Program and Cardiology Clinics. While at Winthrop University Hospital, Dr. Smith was elected Outstanding Attending Physician of the Year in Cardiology and Internal Medicine. In addition, Dr. Smith has been an Assistant Professor of Medicine at the State University of New York at Stony Brook. His teachings have inspired seasoned cardiologists as well as those who are newly entering the medical field.
Dr. Richard Smith is a participant of numerous clinical research trials, and a contributor to several prominent publications. In addition to multiple scientific publications, he has also published poetry and short stories, and has enjoyed performing his works publicly. He brings his love of life and the arts to his patients, by offering compassionate personal care, not just treatment of disease. Dr. Smith states, “Medicine is both an art and a science, and a good clinician should incorporate an understanding of this philosophy into the care of his or her patients.”
