About Dr. Robert Helsten
Robert A. Helsten, MD is a family medicine physician who has been in practice for 40 years. He provides a complete range of primary care, acute injury care, and injury rehabilitation services to patients from the greater Dallas-Fort Worth metropolitan area at TREND Healthcare’s office in Denton, Texas.
In addition to specializing in physical rehabilitation medicine, Dr. Helsten is an expert in emergency room medicine who has honed his urgent care and acute injury treatment skills in several Texas hospitals.
Whether his patients are recovering from accident trauma or dealing with a chronic health condition, Dr. Helsten believes his primary role as a physician is to provide his patients with the education, advice, care, compassion, and support they need to achieve optimal health.
After receiving his medical degree from the University of Arkansas College of Medicine in 1977, Dr. Helsten went on to complete both his internship and his residency at CHRISTUS Spohn Hospital Corpus Christi Memorial. He is a Diplomate of the American Academy of Pain Management.

Dr Helsten is the last of the doctors who actually have a work ethic and he does his own intake reports. That allows him to actually see everything on your records so he can ask QUESTIONS that are relevant to what is going on in your life and situation. Most doctors rely on staff to do all this, and they briefly glance at it. Dr H actually sits down with you and takes the time to find out precisely what is happening with you and conducts a thorough evaluation. I am very blessed to have a great doctor in him. He is in demand as the great ones are, so there is a wait time to see him, but it is well worth it. I am always thankful that he is still coming to work each day.

The doctor seemed a little out of it and didn’t provide me with as much clarity with my symptoms as I would have liked. Looked up my symptoms on Google in front of me which made me a little uneasy.

Dr Helsten listens to your complaint and asks more ?'s. He has a keen insight and set up the correct tests to find the source of the problem. It was a breath taking experience to actually sit with a real doctor, and one who has the experience he has. Tragically, he is in great demand and the wait time to see him is not a short one. He still does all the shots himself, and I am grateful he shows up every day for work.

Dr. Helsten is a great doctor, he listens to your health problems and your symptoms to treat. He has great bedside manner with all his patients, he was great at treating my husband for shoulder pain he had been having for months. My husband now does not have shoulder pain thanks to Dr. Helsten.

Dr. Helsten has about four decades of experience in medicine treating everyone from small children to geriatric patients for conditions ranging from basic childhood coughs and other maladies to pneumonia and serious work-related injuries. He enjoys his work and is a serious person with a demeanor to match but is thorough and kind. I recommend his office to anyone in the Denton area.
