Dr. Thiel completed his undergraduate studies at Cal Poly San Luis Obispo before earning his medical degree at St. Louis University, where he discovered his passion for dermatology and the critical role skin plays in overall health. He went on to complete his dermatology residency at Virginia Tech, developing specialized expertise in rheumatologic dermatology, including conditions such as dermatomyositis, lupus, scleroderma, morphea, and vasculitis. His clinical interests also include managing chemo- and immunotherapy-related rashes and treating autoimmune bullous disorders. Fluent in Spanish, Dr. Thiel values building strong connections with a diverse patient community. Outside of medicine, he enjoys traveling with his family to remote destinations, where they can hike, explore, and unplug from technology. A lifelong sports enthusiast, he is also an avid golfer with a particular love for baseball, basketball, and football.
