Dr. Roger Weiss, MD

Dr. Roger Weiss, MD

Psychiatrist
CA
When someone seeks treatment from a psychiatrist they are usually suffering in some way. Anxiety, depression, conflict, psychological pain or confusion are some hallmarks of what brings someone to treatment. Part of the human experience for many people is not feeling understood. Psychiatric treatment begins with a full understanding of the patient, their history, their thoughts, their fantasies, their conflicts, their hopes and dreams. After this diagnostic phase we enter a mutually agreed-upon treatment approach, whether psychotherapy or medication, or both. Empathic listening and insight is the center of my therapeutic work with patients. My activity may vary depending on the nature of the particular issues being dealt with. It is my view that all visits and contact with the patient should have a therapeutic value, even if it's simply clarification of their present state. In this way, the patient may gain a better understanding of themselves from a conscious and subconscious level, allowing them to make better decisions and alleviate pain. Born and raised in New York, I received my medical degree from the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey. Psychiatric Residency was at Hahnemann University School of Medicine in Philadelphia. My wife and I recently moved to Los Angeles to be near our two sons and three grandchildren. She is a relationship therapist. I maintained a private practice for more than 30 years while also training and supervising psychiatric residents at Pennsylvania Hospital. I was an Assistant Clinical Professor of Psychiatry at the University of Pennsylvania School of Medicine. Education: New York University BS 1968 College of Medicine and Dentistry MD 1973 Hahnemann Medical College and Hospital Residency Psychiatry 1976 Board Certification Psychiatry 1977
