Dr. Ryan Powers, MD

Dr. Ryan Powers, MD

Psychiatrist
NY
I'm a licensed psychiatrist practicing in New York. I work with adults navigating challenges — in their work, their relationships, and their sense of who they are — and I bring equal attention to the clinical and the personal. My approach is collaborative and intentional: I listen first, prescribe thoughtfully when it helps, and treat the conversation itself as a meaningful part of the work. Medication may be one part of a larger conversation, but is rarely the whole of it. I completed medical training at Dartmouth Medical School, psychiatry residency at the Mount Sinai Hospital, and advanced training in psychodynamic psychotherapy at the William Alanson White Institute and New York Psychoanalytic institute. I have conducted research on depression and alzheimer's disease at Dartmouth and UCSF. I integrate modern neuroscience with psychodynamic techniques to provide care that is nuanced, personal, and rigorous.

What should a new client know about working with you?

I offer medication management and psychotherapy for anxiety, depression, insomnia, ADHD, OCD, Bipolar Disorder, life transitions and relational challenges. I also help patients pair down excessive medication regimens (ie de-prescribing).

What is your typical process for working with clients?

An initial session usually begins with a thorough history, which often gives way to a more free-form conversation. I share my understanding and professional opinions directly and openly when it advances your goals, though my tendency is to give as much space as possible for you to elaborate your thoughts and concerns.
