About Dr. Salma Pothiawala

Salma Pothiawala, MD, MPH, FAAD joined Riverchase Dermatology and Cosmetic Surgery in 2017. Dr. Pothiawala was part of the ultra-competitive combined BS/MD program at the University of South Florida, where she earned a Bachelor of Science in Biomedical Sciences as well as her medical doctorate. During medical school, she pursued a joint MD/MPH degree, for which she moved to Boston to study at the Harvard School of Public Health. During this time, she was inducted into the prestigious Alpha Omega Alpha Medical Honor Society. Upon graduating, Dr. Pothiawala completed an internship in internal medicine and a dermatology residency at the University of South Florida, College of Medicine. She has published numerous papers in leading dermatology journals, written chapters in dermatology textbooks, and presented at national meetings. Dr. Pothiawala brings with her an extensive experience in cosmetic dermatology, employing the latest cutting-edge technologies to facial aesthetics, skin tightening, and scarring. In addition to her board certification in dermatology, Dr. Pothiawala is a fellow of the American Academy of Dermatology, American Society for Dermatologic Surgery, and Women’s Dermatologic Society. In her free time, Dr. Pothiawala enjoys spending time with family and friends, traveling, and biking.

Dr. Salma Pothiawala barley stayed five minutes in the room. A minute into the appointment I could tell that she had a one track mind and regardless of what I said, worked and didn’t work she wanted to prescribe me what I’ve always been prescribed regardless of what I’ve been saying due to my young age. I didn’t appreciate feeling rushed or that I wasn’t able to go over everything I wanted to discuss. Doctors should allow patients to speak freely and listen to what they say.

Dr. Was very concern with my problem. She listened my health history and past treatments. Front office people were very helpful. Timing was perfect did not have to wait. I am glad to find new doctor in new place.
To me, the appointment felt rushed, I felt unheard, my concerns invalidated by the doctor, and she offered no advice as to why I was experiencing some of my long standing issues, beyond stock answers that I get from Google. If the appointment I booked didn’t allow time for the additional concerns I made in my appointment note at the time of booking, then I would have appreciated an appointment adjustment, but for a first visit to a new doctor, it felt impersonal, insensitive, and I left very thrown off. I just received proper insurance, I wanted someone to hear my concerns that I haven’t been able to properly address/remedy in the past because of lack of coverage, and this was not it. Maybe another patient finds her to the point and time-efficient, but this was not a patient/doctor match for me unfortunately.
The Dr. was professional, courteous and kind and truly seemed to genuinely care about my well being. Staff were also very friendly and attentive.
She’s been nothing but an excellent extremely fantastic superior doctor to me words cannot describe her character in full. Her assistant Melissa is phenomenal and very compassionate with. I love Dr. Salma and PA/RN MELLISSA.
