Getting to know Dr. Sarah Luem
I provide psychotherapy to both couples and individuals, working primarily from psychodynamic, attachment, experiential, and emotion-focused perspectives. I approach our sessions with warmth, energy, and genuineness, and strive to create an atmosphere of trust and mutual dialogue, where together we embark on your journey toward self-discovery.
I believe therapy is a process that unfolds both within the therapeutic relationship and within yourself—and that each influences the other. Therapy offers you the space to dig to the root of your presenting problem and to bring the material discovered there into the container of the therapeutic relationship. Here, this previously buried material becomes seen, known, respected, understood, and finally integrated into your sense of self—so that you may feel freer and more complete. Though therapy can be challenging at times, it also provides space for you to tap into your inner resources, strength, and incredible innate capacity to heal. Often, you will discover that the traumatic experiences in your life serve as openings to your true self, your inner light, and the goodness that lies deep inside you.
I also have an affinity for depth, metaphor, and incorporating the spiritual into our work, but only if that resonates with you. You may already identify as spiritual, or you may be yearning for something bigger—something beyond the self that can serve your self-development in profound and meaningful ways. I believe a genuine spiritual sense, whatever that may be for YOU, can serve as an important adjunct to relational psychotherapeutic work, and I welcome individuals from all backgrounds.
I hold a PsyD in Clinical Psychology from Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey, and I am certified in Couples Therapy through the William Alanson White Institute’s Couples Therapy Training and Education Program.
What should a new client know about working with you?
I am an out-of-network provider. I will provide you with a superbill at the end of every month to submit to your insurance company for any reimbursements you may be eligible for. Benefits will depend on your specific policy.
