About Dr. Sean Lager
Dr. Lager is a Board Certified, Sports Medicine Fellowship-trained Orthopedic Surgeon. In 2012, he received his subspecialty certification from the American Board of Orthopedic Surgery for Sports Medicine, joining a select number of distinguished Sports Medicine specialists in the United States.
Dr. Lager's interests include arthroscopy and the management of sports-related and severe traumatic injuries for children and adults. His patients range from elite-level and professional athletes to "weekend warriors." He treats everything from mild ankle sprains to multi-fracture trauma victims.
Dr. Lager prefers arthroscopic surgical procedures over "open" procedures for several reasons:
- smaller incisions cause less trauma to tissue and produce less pain
- surgeries are "same day" procedures
- patients have quicker recoveries and can begin rehab faster
Dr. Lager completed his Sports Medicine Fellowship at Union Memorial Hospital in Baltimore, where he was a member of the medical staff for the Baltimore Ravens and served as the primary physician for several Division I college and high school teams. Since then, he was the head physician for the New Jersey All-Star High School Football game for three years. Dr. Lager continues to work with several local high schools.
He earned his Doctor of Medicine from George Washington University and completed his Orthopedic residency at the State University of New York, Downstate Medical Center.
Dr. Lager has published several Sports Medicine articles and received the NCAA Award for Women's Lacrosse Injuries from the American Orthopedic Society for Sports Medicine. He is currently involved in research regarding concussions.
Dr. Lager has been a Diplomate of the American Board of Orthopedic Surgery since 2008 (Board Certified) and, in March 2010, was elected to Fellowship of the American Academy of Orthopedic Surgeons.

The wait was very long.
No apology for that.
I had two of his medical assistants come ask me the same questions over and over again.
I asked for the doctor and was told he would come to discuss my Xrays. He never mention the Xrays. He only talked about one of the things I came there for. He was really rushing and saw me very briefly and left.

If you can go elsewhere do so. While the Dr was nice and so were staff the wait to be seen was not worth it at all. I checked-in for my 10:45 appointment at 10:50 and noticed someone else also had a 10:45 appointment with the same Dr. I don’t think I was aware Dr’s do double bookings? I was finally called back to a room at 12:10 saw a PA at 12:20, got X-rays done in the office, then finally saw the Dr to review these at 1:20. I really was incredibly frustrated with such a ridiculous wait time.

They have an in-house x-ray machine, which was very convenient once I actually got seen. The staff was all lovely, but the wait was a bit much. Apparently the best times to make an appointment for, to avoid a long wait, are early in the am, and around lunchtime.

I know it’s doctors offices are archaic when it comes to adopting technology but the forms I had to fill out were many. The Wait time was about an hour which was made even more annoying when a person that arrived right after me was seen before me.
The consultation was pretty quick but the doctor seemed pretty friendly and knowledgeable.

The wait was a little long for a midtown location at each step: check in, seeing the PA, and then finally the doc. The receptionist insisted on (over) charging me for the copay (I have 80/20 plan, no copay); and 3 months later, I'm still waiting on the refund to my FSA card. You can't talk to anyone from billing either, they're always busy. Dr. Lager was nice enough, but basically my diagnosis was to come in for physical therapy. The topical medication they were prescribing to me never arrived and after calling the office to follow up, nothing. I'd say the office admin is not something I'd want to deal with going forward.

I was annoyed that I filled out all the paperwork online and I still had to waste 25 minutes filling out paperwork in the office. The receptionist stated that I needed to print out the paperwork. I was never advised of this. I even showed her the text message I received stating, "Your info has been sent to your healthcare provider. Just remind the office that you completed your forms online through Zocdoc! Problems? Reply "s" for support,". Still wasn't good enough of the office I guess.

waited a very long time, then felt somewhat rushed when i was finally in there. i chose him because i read good reviews esp on bedside manner, but i honestly found him to be just ok- didn’t explain stuff very well and basically just told me everything he didn’t agree with from the last dr leaving me feeling more confused than anything else. won’t go back unless i can’t find someone else.

Quite the easy going, warm and welcoming gentleman. Many a times doctors are far too busy to truly care to listen and understand, and offer beneficial feedback or effective treatment. Genuinely treated me like I’d treat myself and sincerely chose not to undertake unnecessary cost accumulating procedures that wouldn’t do me good!
Once again, many a times so many of us walk out of the doctors and feel like we unwillingly donated to a charity we couldn’t identify or relate to. But here’s a gentleman, I am grateful to attest that, healing and helping is at the top of his priorities!
