About Dr. Shaheen Mian

Dr. Shaheen Mian has been practicing Internal Medicine and Primary Care for more than 30 years. She earned her Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor of Surgery from Fatima Jinnah Medical University and completed her residency in Internal Medicine at Saint Vincent Hospital. Dr. Mian has extensive experience treating patients with a wide range of medical conditions. She recently relocated from Massachusetts to Northern Virginia to be closer to her family. During her tenure in New England, Dr. Mian worked as a Primary Care physician in various roles, providing both inpatient and outpatient care. She ran a private medical practice for over 20 years, managed a medical weight loss program supporting patients in their weight loss journeys, and supervised care for patients in skilled nursing facilities. Dr. Mian served as faculty at Tufts Medical Center in Boston, where she trained medical students and nurse practitioner students for several years. She was also the Quality Medical Director in her local care organization, overseeing quality metrics in physician practices to improve compliance with Medicare regulations. Committed to giving back to underserved communities, Dr. Mian regularly volunteers her time to minority communities and people in need. Voted “Best Physician” at her hospital for several consecutive years, Dr. Mian is passionate about consulting with her patients to achieve the best outcomes tailored to their needs. A lifelong learner, she enjoys traveling, the arts, and spending time with her grandchildren.

I was searching for a new primary dr due to limited availability with current one. I also brought up concerns I had including weight gain and wanted to discuss options including injectable’s. My weight gain is a result of many factors; including recent trauma of which I’m seeking therapy and communicated this. While I was not unhappy with drs treatment plan and agree with it; I was very upset at her discussing this with the nurse while I waited on the reception area and could hear the entire conversation, meaning anyone else in there could as well. Additionally, I feel like there were invalid assumptions made about my families and my lifestyle choices that were not simply inaccurate; but damaging. Someone coming in with diagnosed trauma and anxiety overhearing a dr say how she’s tired of having to deal with this once a week does not help a person seeking assistance. To reiterate I am not disagreeing with the course of treatment, I won’t take up her valuable time as a burden.
