About Dr. Shannon D. Nelson
Shannon D. Nelson, M.D. is a native of West Memphis, Arkansas. He earned his Bachelor of Science degree in Chemistry receiving Departmental Honors from Morehouse College in 2001. After graduating from college, he continued his education at the University of Arkansas and received his Doctor of Medicine degree in 2005. Dr. Nelson completed his residency at Grady Memorial Hospital and the Atlanta VA Medical Center.
He is a Diplomate of the American Board of Internal Medicine.
Dr. Nelson is published in the American Journal of Gastroenterology where he and his colleagues studied the efficacy and tolerability between pegylated interferon alfa-2a vs.pegylated interferon alfa-2b in combination with ribavirin in the treatment of patients with chronic Hepatitis C. During his free time, he serves as an Alumni Ambassador to Morehouse College and he enjoys mentoring, traveling, reading non-fiction, golf, and spending time with family & friends.
