About Dr. Shauna Higgins
Dr. Higgins was born and raised in Los Angeles, California. She attended Brown University for her undergraduate education where she studied Human Biology and Business Economics while simultaneously studying Photography at the Rhode Island School of Design. She earned her MD from the UCLA David Geffen School of Medicine, where, in addition to acquiring a number of academic honors, she served as Editor-In-Chief of The Beat Art and Literary Magazine showcasing the creativity of members of the UCLA health sciences community.
Dr. Higgins has completed several years of research both at the University of Southern California and the University of Nebraska Medical Center where she managed and conducted a number of epidemiological, clinical, and translational science research studies in melanoma and non-melanoma skin cancer, patient-related satisfaction outcomes, and complementary and alternative medicine.
She has authored dozens of publications, several book chapters, and has presented over 30 abstracts via poster or oral presentation. She completed her internal medicine training within the Yale-New Haven Health System and completed her residency in dermatology at the University of Southern California + LA County Hospitals residency program, where she also served as chief resident. She is passionate about holistic dermatology care.
Outside of work, Dr. Higgins loves music, travel, visual and performing arts, and trying new restaurants.

The provider was warm and friendly; however, I left my appointment feeling extremely disappointed. Considering I paid out of pocket and drove a considerable distance, I expected a more thorough experience. I feel she could have explained her findings and the reasoning behind her diagnosis in greater detail. I was also supposed to receive steroid injections and was told the provider would be right back. However, after waiting approximately 40-45 minutes, she never returned. I’m not sure if she forgot I was still in the room or what happened, but I eventually decided to leave.
Overall, I had much higher expectations for this appointment. Unfortunately, I left feeling like I had wasted both my time and money, especially since I never received the treatment we had discussed.

Dr.Higgins recommended me luxurious sheet masks right away for a damaged skin barrier. When I reasonably asked for an alternative because I cannot afford that for a five day treatment, she seems annoyed and said she was insulted. Insulted by patients who reasonably asked for alternative treatment plan and cannot afford your luxurious masks? Feels like a clinic that only cares about profit and not very clinical and research based.

I booked an appointment with Dr. Shauna Higgins to screen for skin cancer. While I wasn't seen by Dr. Higgins on the day of, my provider, PA Julia Berman, was fantastic! She listened to all my concerns, conducted a thorough screening, answered all my questions, and provided good preventive care advice. I'll definitely be coming back to her for my annual screening!
