“I’ve been seeing Shawn for a few months now, and he’s honestly one of the best mental health providers I’ve ever met. He really listens, takes his time, and makes you feel comfortable opening up. You never feel rushed or judged. He explains things clearly and works with you to find what’s best not just handing out medication and sending you on your way. You can tell he genuinely cares and wants to help his patients feel better long-term. I always leave my appointments feeling heard and supported. I’m really grateful to have found him.”

Getting to know Shawn Smith

I specialize in the treatment of substance use disorders, with a focus on opioid dependence and medication-assisted treatment, including the use of Suboxone. My goal is to provide effective, evidence-based care that supports both recovery and long-term stability in a safe, structured, and nonjudgmental environment. I work with adults who may feel stuck in cycles of use, withdrawal, or relapse, as well as those who are ready to take the first step toward recovery but are unsure where to begin. Treatment is individualized and may include medication management, cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), and practical strategies to help reduce cravings, improve daily functioning, and rebuild a sense of control.

What should a new client know about working with you?

My approach is both supportive and direct. I believe recovery is not about perfection, but about progress, consistency, and having the right tools in place. When appropriate, I incorporate medication-assisted treatment to help stabilize brain chemistry, reduce withdrawal symptoms, and support sustained recovery—while also addressing the underlying behavioral and emotional patterns that contribute to substance use. In addition to substance use treatment, I also address co-occurring conditions such as anxiety, ADHD, and mood disorders, which often play a significant role in addiction and recovery. By treating the whole person—not just the symptoms—I aim to help clients achieve meaningful, lasting change.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

I am committed to creating a space where you feel respected, understood, and supported throughout your treatment. Whether you are early in your recovery or looking to strengthen your progress, we will work together to build a plan that aligns with your goals and supports your long-term well-being.

Great at explaining the bigger picture to what medications can do to your body. As well as you could tell that he takes much pride in the work that he does and the care he has for his patients is not the same as most psychiatric practitioners I have been to previously.
