Dr. Shayna Popkin, DO

Psychiatrist
OH
I’m Dr. Shayna Popkin, a psychiatrist at Zyra Mental Health. I offer online psychiatric evaluations and medication management for adults ages 18–64 in Ohio. You might be wondering whether ADHD explains years of difficulty focusing, looking for help with anxiety or depression, or hoping to revisit a medication that hasn’t worked the way you expected. At our first visit, I want to hear what brought you in, how you’ve been feeling, and what you’d like to change. You don’t need to know your diagnosis or have the right words. We can start with a question as simple as “What has a hard day looked like for you lately?” We’ll talk through what might be contributing to your symptoms and which treatment options fit your goals. If medication makes sense for you, I’ll explain what it may help with, what side effects to watch for, and when we’ll check in. At follow-up visits, we’ll look at what’s changing in your daily life and decide together whether to adjust your care.

Getting to know Dr. Shayna Popkin

What should a new client know about working with you?

You can come to our first visit with a specific question, like “Could this be ADHD?” or simply a sense that something has changed and you’d like help understanding why. I’ll ask about what you’re noticing, how it affects your day, and what you’ve already tried. I also want to know what you’d most like to feel or do differently. I’ll explain my impressions in plain language and make time for your questions. If we consider medication, we’ll talk through what you can expect, possible side effects, and any concerns you have about taking it. At follow-up visits, I welcome your honest feedback. Hearing that something hasn’t helped, or that a side effect is getting in the way, helps us decide together what to change.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

I start our first visit by asking what brought you in and what you’d like help with. We’ll talk about when your symptoms began, how they affect your daily life, and what has helped in the past. I’ll also review your health history and current medications. Before we wrap up, I’ll share what I think may be going on, explain anything we still need to explore, and work with you to choose a next step. At follow-up visits, we’ll check in on the changes that matter to you, such as whether worry is taking up less of your day or it’s getting easier to finish tasks. If you’re taking medication, we’ll review how well it’s working and any side effects. Together, we’ll decide whether to give the plan more time or make an adjustment.
