Patient reviews for Dr. Shelly Shi
All the staff was very nice and there was not much of a wait.
Incredibly helpful, kind and always courteous! Has always been attentive to my health and truly cares about all her patients! Can’t recommend enough, she is great!!! Thank
Dr. Shi and her staff are very professional and excellent at their jobs. Test results are returned quickly via Dr. Shi's web site.
Dr Shi was really nice. But the wait time was long and the nurses were not very friendly and caring.
She was kind and willing to listen to everything I had to say I at no point felt rushed and she really helped me feel at ease.
I had a great visit with the doctor. She was knowledgeable and kind it was like we know each other for years. There was almost no wait time and the nurse was very professional with the pretesting. I would high recommend the doctor. One last thing I was able to go up the stairs because of my phobia of elevators, I have had to cancel quite some appointments because I could not go up the stairs. Thanks guys
Dr Shi and the nurse were both really kind to me. I would highly recommend this office!
Receptionist was kind enough to clean up a spill I hade made, nurse was very friendly and so was Dr. Shi! I have never felt so at home and cared for by a PCP. Will definitely come back.
Very pleasant staff and clean/organized office, and Dr. Shi is very friendly and efficient!
I am so pleased with my appointment with Dr. Shi. Not only was I taken care of right away but her knowledge is superb and point out an important health issue right way. She is very friendly and easy to talk to. I will definitely be back.
I went to this doctor for annual checkup. The entire visit was in such a rush as I wasn’t able to ask all questions about my health. It seemed like she just wanted to finish with me ASAP. The only good thing I can think of was the office was clean. Overall, I don’t recommend her.
Great office; receptive staff who was great at taking blood (barely felt it); attentive MD who talked issues out and was friendly.
Good overall experience. Clean office. Polite receptionist.
Always great to see Dr. Shi. Very helpful and her staff is very nice.
Did my annual physical, she was great, fast but thorough.
Very thorough with going through my medical history and soft spoken. Helped me feel calm during her examination. Great front desk receptionist and very professional nurse that took my vitals.
She was very open and receiving of why I was being seen, provided me with a referral with no questions, definitely am selecting her as my PCP going forward
I went in for an appointment, I did wait a little, but it was worth it. In 5 years here in NYC one of the best physicians I have been to - one that was nice, but actually knew what she was doing. Dr. Shi was very understanding and let me explain myself - she then was able to diagnose me very easily.
First time visits are always a lot of paperwork. If you keep that in mind, you will be fine. She is quick and efficient as all the ladies in the floor. Thank you.
Great experience for an annual physical. Both Samantha and Dr. Shi were very friendly and professional.
The receptionist, nurse, and Dr. Shi were all very courteous and helpful. They addressed all of my concerns and even gave me 2 follow-up calls. I felt very comfortable and satisfied by the time my first visit was over.
Dr. Shi and her staff were very friendly and professional.
I’ve visited this office twice now and feel that I can give a fair review because both experiences were very similar. The office- small but very clean. Privacy could be an issue as you are likely to run into other patients when they make you leave the room to get weighed etc. I noticed that they keep blood an urine samples in a very open area that everyone has to walk past. I was not comfortable with that being that your personal information is printed on the tubes and anyone could take a look if they stood there long enough. The staff- receptionist friendly but not very discreet. She called my name out and instantly started to ask me to verify personal info even though I was not standing directly in front of her and the waiting room was full. On my first visit the nurse took my weight, blood pressure, etc. This second visit (about a month later) she did not take me weight or height. This is strange to me because I was there for an annual physical. It’s my personal opinion that you should have the most current information and things can change in a month. Maybe not height but definitely weight... I found them to be strangely timid- this could be a cultural thing but it made me feel very self conscious. The doctor- She’s a seemingly nice person but I don’t find her to be as thorough and caring as previous doctors that I’ve had. She often would interrupt me thinking she knew what I was going to say but would be wrong. She made no mention of some of the measurements that the nurse took— even though I know that they are of concern. Also I felt like she did the bare minimum. Most doctors use a tongue depressor and light when they look in your mouth. She did no such thing. I said Ahhh for two seconds and she spent almost no time looking at my mouth and throat. That’s just one example but the whole visit felt that way. I can’t tell if she actually cares. And that’s not a good feeling to have especially after a second visit. To compare, whenever I’ve visited new doctors in NYC they were very thorough and always immediately and seriously addressed my health issues/concerns (esp given my family history) and always gave options for plans of action. I have not had that experience with Dr. Shi.
Dr. Shi is very professional, and the staff is polite, and very helpful. I would recommend Dr. Shi to those who are looking for a doctor.
I came in for a yearly physical check-up. Doctor Shi was very thorough, answered my questions, and referred me to the right physicians I needed to see. The yearly physical was covered by my insurance, but I was charged an extra fee for an "office visit" (which I was not informed of until the visit was over). I wish I would have been informed of this before the visit.
Dr. Shi is very professional and efficient. Highly recommended!
She is a good listener and is very understanding of my concerns and health issues. She also made the referral based on my symptoms and what I need. Highly recommend!
Seemed rushed to get me out, and didn't feel like she listened to me when I told her my symptoms. Gave me a flu shot, which I had an allergic reaction to- and when I called, receptionist told me this was "impossible". It's not, and it's dangerous of her to say so. Nurse was very nice, and they followed up promptly about my blood work.
It was my first time here. My experience was none less than my greatest doctor visit. The place itself was immaculate. So clean and simple. The receptionist and wait staff were the kindest. They helped me switch my pcp over real quickly too. Then when I was waiting for the doctor. The nurse was so friendly and nice and very thorough. She definitely knew what she was doing. Even when she took blood samples it was quick and painless. The doctor was the same. Dr. Should was kind and gentle. I had a lot of questions but she was so patient and answered each one very carefully. I could tell that she cared. I really enjoyed my visit. Even got my friend to switch to her.
Was very professional Did some test they call me right away to let me know the results!!!
Excellent doctor! Lovely bedside manner. So happy I found her.
She’s very nice and professional!
Very thorough and very sweet. She listen attentively and ask the questions needed. Thank you
To be fair, Dr. Shi's office is great for annual check up which is what I first went to her for. It was easy and quick. Which is why I made her my primary physician recently and returned for a check up before my travels. I told her where I'll be visiting and she prescribed me Typhoid, but informed me my insurance wouldn't cover it. Only my insurance does if she had requested a prior authorization (PA) with my insurance when she prescribed me the Typhoid! So I paid out of pocket and had to request the PA from Dr. Shi's office (which they should've done in the first place) and it took them a week to get it done after numerous calls. By the time they got the PA approved by my insurance, the CVS 7 days refund policy expired so I have to call my insurance to send me a reimbursement form. Thanks a lot for wasting my time for not doing the PA properly!
Dr. Shi has a gentle manner, and her assistants are nice. They seem to specialize in Chinese speakers. I think they make Chinese immigrants feel very comfortable culturally. If you are not culturally Chinese, they are a fine, functional doctor's office, but they may not be the best fit for you if your ailments are culturally related. For example, my mid-back sometimes hurts because I participate in powerlifting as a sport, but Dr. Shi questioned why I do heavy lifting and seemed to assume it was for work. However, she still listened to me and agreed with my request for a physical therapy referral, so it's fine as long as you take an active approach to discussing possible treatments with her. They charged me for an annual check-up covered by my insurance and said they would return it if my insurance goes through, which is inconvenient, but not a big problem unless you are strapped for cash. They have an online patient portal, which is a convenient way to securely transfer information. The wait time was as bad as other reviews make it seem. I was seen 50-60 minutes after my appointment time, though I arrived 15 minutes early. Bring a book to read.
Best experience ever,Dr.Shelly is very nice, caring and professional. She answered my questions very patiently and took my concerns very seriously. The place is easy tp commute, the environment and facilities are clean and pleasant. I highly recommend.
Could’ve been a bit more thorough.
Doctor Shi was very professional. I mentioned some of my symptoms and immediately she knew what sickness I had. She made some recommendations on how to combat my throat dryness to prevent getting sick easily moving forward. The medicine she prescribed was on-point - not too much or too strong. She also gave some option medication just in cause my cough escalated. HOW CONSIDERATE!!! In addition I really want to emphasize how much she cares. This was my first visit and she spent 30+ addition minutes completing my annual checkup AND taught me ways to check for early signs of breast cancer. Best clinic experience ever. I will make her my primary doctor no doubt.
The office staff was warm and welcoming. I was seen right away. The office was cleanest I've ever seen! Dr. Shi was kind and attentive. I had a wonderful experience. I've finally found my new primary care doctor!
Wonderful kind and caring GP - the best!
Very efficient staff, clean office, and Dr. Shi was kind and thorough, and asked the right questions. Overall a good visit.
For annual physical she was not thorough as my previous doctors.
went for annual physical and all was handled professional and punctual.
Dr Shi is so good. I have been going to her for years and I can’t reccomend her enough.
I did my annual checkup here. She is very patient and thoughtful, awesome!
Dr. Shi was thorough and knowledgeable. She remembered details of my previous visit and referenced them during my appointment. She has a lovely demeanor and is easy to talk to. A good doctor is hard to find!
Dr. Shi was wonderful, the only primary care doctor I've been to that actually asked me questions about my lifestyle and well-being. The office is clean and well-managed. They were very clear about costs and billing when I asked, and I was able to easily log in to their patient portal right away.
Probably one of the worst doctors I have been to (although she is very nice). Went to get some test results done because was not feeling well and she did not even try to figure out potential reasons why I was not feeling well. Just took the tests, asked a few questions on family background and left. Nurse calls me up few days later describing my results and she could not answer basic questions that I asked. Asked for the doctor herself to call me and she never did.
