What should a new client know about working with you?
I believe psychiatric care works best as a collaborative process rather than a one-size-fits-all approach. My role is to help clients understand their treatment options clearly, including the potential benefits, risks, side effect profiles, and expected outcomes of different medications and therapeutic approaches, so we can make informed decisions together.
I aim to create a supportive and nonjudgmental environment where clients feel heard and understood. Treatment is individualized, and I work closely with each client to identify what feels most appropriate and sustainable for them at their current stage of life and mental health journey.
My overall philosophy emphasizes both symptom relief and long-term wellbeing. While medications can be incredibly helpful tools, I also encourage the development of coping skills, emotional resilience, self-awareness, and sustainable lifestyle changes that support long-term mental health.
What is your typical process for working with clients?
During the initial intake, I focus on getting to know the client as a whole person rather than only focusing on symptoms or diagnoses. Many clients come in believing they have a specific condition that needs to be “fixed,” but through conversation and exploration, we often uncover deeper contributing factors, underlying stressors, or alternative explanations that may not have been fully recognized before.
Together, we discuss the client’s short-term, mid-term, and long-term goals, including how they envision their emotional wellbeing, relationships, functioning, and quality of life improving over time. From there, we develop a treatment plan collaboratively, which may include medication management, psychotherapy recommendations, behavioral strategies, lifestyle interventions, and ongoing reflection as treatment progresses.
My long-term goal for many clients is to help reduce unnecessary medication burden whenever clinically appropriate, while supporting the development of healthier coping mechanisms, emotional resilience, and greater confidence in their ability to navigate life independently.
