Dr. Shirin Peters, MD

Internist, Primary Care Doctor

Professional statement

INTERNAL MEDICINE/PRIMARY CARE & TRAVEL MEDICINE MEDICAL WEIGHT LOSS & MEDICAL SKIN CARE ALLERGY TESTING(Food&Environmental) Dr. Shirin Peters earned her M.D. at New York Medical College and is board-certified in General Internal Medicine. She completed residency training at the Former St. Vincent’s Hospital in Manhattan, with a short stint at Wyckoff Heights Medical Center in Brooklyn. Dr. Peters spent the year after completion of her residency training at a private practice in North Carolina. She simultaneously worked at a clinical research company where she acted as Principal Investigator on several large clinical trials. Here she learned about many emerging medical therapies for common chronic diseases, in their final stages of testing before FDA approval. Dr. Peters developed an interest in treatments for obesity through her work experiences so far, both in New York and North Carolina, as well as experiences with the disease entity and its complications in her personal life. She noticed that obesity was either the root cause or an exacerbating factor for many chronic medical problems in her patients. She began to feel that finding an effective way to treat obesity in a person would be the ultimate preventative medicine and would lead to significant improvements in many of their other medical problems. After studying materials from the American Society of Bariatric Physicians and the International Association for Physicians in Aesthetic Medicine, Dr. Peters observed a weight loss program already established at the practice where she worked. She attended courses on medical weight loss strategies, developed an arsenal of proven approaches to weight loss, and Urban Orchid Medical was born.

Everyone is professional and I am well taken care of. This was a morning appointment and I had to wait more than 20 minutes. However the PA spent the time needed for my visit. I’m used to going in the evening and having no wait time.

Waited almost a half an hour for the office to open (it was the day after memorial day) but once they did they were prompt and professional. Everything went smoothly and blood work was back within a week. I've been backsince and there was virtually no wait time. Definitely a great office with adequate staff and in house lab.

Overall disorganized experience and very very slow. I checked in at 8:20 AM and didn’t see a doctor until after 9:15AM. I waited to see the doctor and no one working in the office seemed to be preoccupied with anything. Thenurses who saw me before the doctor seemed very inexperienced. The office itself is very old. Everyone was nice but the overall experience was very poorly managed and extremely delayed and slow. I would not recommend this doctors office.

I've now been to the Bethany Medical Clinic a few times. I have only been seen by Dr. Peters once, otherwise they have always assigned me to a PA. To be fair, I can only go to the office after 5:00PM (after work). The first time I was seen, the doctor did not appear have reviewed my chart or paperwork, and she asked me a variety of questions before letting me know that I seem to display signs of hypothyroidism (I was diagnosed with this disease over 10 years ago, it was certainly on my paperwork). The next few times I've visited have been relatively pleasant. However, they make you come in to see them after blood work every time, which is a little shady because this can be delivered via phone or their online portal (which it is) and it seems strange that I would need to come in and be told the same thing, except at additional cost. The reception staff is lovely, the nurses are great.

Bit of an odd experience, waited about 30 minutes before being seen where they asked me questions and ran a couple tests, then I had to wait 20 more minutes before I spoke with another doctor who asked me the samequestions the previous doctor did. I feel my appointment time could have been cut in half

Literally one of the very worst experiences I have had with a doctors' office. I have been trying to call for two days straight and no one seems to answer the phone. Considering how small this clinic is, it is absolutelyhorrifying. (When I was seen there last week, there were three people working watching TV, but no one can answer the phone...) They send you a text system to connect with but they don't seem to respond to this system either. Considering I received a notice that I need a medically required examine, and I am solely waiting on a notice to be sent to another doctor from this office- I can't explain the frustration. I would in no way recommend considering the unprofessionalism and lack of any concern from a medical provider.

First - I didn't see the doctor, I saw her assistant. Which is fine because it was a routine medical. Pros: no wait time :) Cons: they made me fill a questionnaire, the doctor's assistant aswed the exact same questions, andthen the nurse asked some of the same questions. Talk about being efficient! Overall happy because it was quick :)

The staff member who did my intake was very kind, friendly and professional. The downside was the long wait. I waited over a hour and 45 minutes for a 3-minute interaction with the doctor, who rushed me along and didn’t doa skin check like I asked. I didn’t bring it up because I wanted to leave. Also, the waiting “room” was merely a hallway with the tv blaring. It’s unclear if the volume was so high to drown out voices because I was still able to hear other patients and staff speaking behind closed doors. I ultimately wasn’t able to get a gynecological exam because the person I met had different qualifications than the doctor I booked with on zocdoc. Additionally, their practice seemed to push cosmetic surgery. I will think twice about booking a place simple because they have appointments after 6pm.

Dr. Peters' office is unreliable. They lost my test results, and then said that "we might have not done the right test" for a time-sensitive and potentially life-threatening issue. After they were so unhelpful and unresponsive about this,I ended up having to go to another doctor to be treated, and they were pretty appalled by the incompetency of this practice. I would never recommend Dr. Peters as a primary care provider, because primary care providers are supposed to be your first line of medical support, and she couldn't be further from consistent and supportive.

To note, I don’t usually write reviews- whether it be yelp, zocdoc, what have you... though I feel obligated to share the adverse experience I just had, as the anonymity of Zocdoc might lead you to say, ‘hey I’ll give thisplace a try’ like I did. Don’t. Don’t waste your time coming here. The most helpful person in the office was the receptionist. Don’t expect anything you cannot gain/learn on the internet. Even when I attempted to restate my symptoms, as I figured I was being misunderstood, the doctor stated that she’d rather not repeat herself and insisted I wrap up the appt because she had other patients waiting. Leaving with the same knowledge of my sickness I had previous to coming in, I’m very disappointed.

I've been coming to Dr Peters' office for years, but now that I am seeing other practitioners (I'm not even sure if Dr. Peters herself comes in normally), I have been consistently disappointed. I had multiple appointments last year; at everysingle intake, the nurse asked when my last standard procedures took place - very basic procedures that took place at their office. It's scary to feel that your own doctor can't keep your medical records straight. When I came into the office, I was not made to feel very comfortable with some test results. And I do not want to go into the office every time I have a question about my prescription. I asked questions about my medications through Klara, the (terrible) online systems, I get responses that don't answer my question. My question about what is the difference between the two medications was responded to with the two generic names for the drugs. My question about what is the difference in dosage was answered with the numbers. There was no information provided on side effects, reasons why something changed, or any context at all. Why do you think I asked a doctor instead of WebMD? It's like working with an outdated robot instead of humans. Despite this being the most conveniently located doctor for me, I am taking my medical care elsewhere. I have no medical issues, and it should not be this hard to just get simple daily prescriptions. I can only imagine what someone with a real need for care would have to go through. To be fair, I miss Dr. Peters - I never had these issues when she was my PCP instead of the other physicians who never even remember me, even when I had appointments 1 week apart for a follow-up.

Honestly is was one of the most awful experiences i've had in a medical office of any kind. Literally every person in the waiting room had their appointment messed up by the secretary (like, 8 people), and the office itself wasdingy, very cramped, and dirty (I don't appreciate seeing a bucket of blood samples sitting open by the check-in desk?). The physician's assistant was nice but honestly it seemed like he was googling the answers to my pretty basic questions literally as i asked them. Absolutely avoid this place, please.
