“Everyone was so kind and prompt! It was a quick check in process and they still saw me even though I was a little late for my appointment. They were very thoughtful to ask about my name and pronouns - when I checked in I said I go by a different name and they asked what it was to make sure they put it in my chart and only used that name for the rest of the process. Everyone was so nice and worked quickly, and my doctor was extremely knowledgeable and gave me a coupon for my medication / filled my prescription immediately. I immediately sent her info to another friend looking for a dermatologist. I will be back!”

Shirley Xu, DNP, FNP-BC, is a Board-Certified Family Nurse Practitioner specializing in medical and cosmetic dermatology. She earned her Bachelor’s degree from Buffalo State University and both her Master’s in Nursing and Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) degrees from Columbia University.
Shirley sees patients for a variety of dermatology concerns, including but not limited to eczema, acne, rosacea, hair loss, and psoriasis, as well as aesthetic and procedural treatments. My visit with Nurse Practitioner (NP) Xu at LaSante Health Services exceeded my expectations. The entire staff was friendly, professional, and communicated clearly throughout.
My only critique is around scheduling a follow-up appointment. The process at the front desk was unclear, and the line moved slowly. I ended up deciding to just reschedule my six-month follow-up online or by phone instead.
Otherwise, I was treated with dignity and respect the whole time. The office itself reflects that same professionalism . It was clean, quiet, and free of the kind of disruptive behavior (loud conversations, speakerphone calls, etc.) you sometimes encounter elsewhere, which gave me the time and opportunity to mentally prepare for my visit and to ensure that I covered everything with NP Xu. Obviously the staff can't control every patient's phone habits, but overall it made for a genuinely pleasant visit.
Honestly, I received better care here at LaSante than I have at Kings County Hospital.

I booked an appointment for a skin tag removal a few days prior. On the day of my appointment, I come in only to be told by the nurse that the doctor does not do that kind of procedure and that my appointment can be cancelled. This all could of been done over the phone before my appointment, why waste my time coming in?

Decided to go to Dr. Xu even though the office is quite far from my house. No regrets! Only waited for around 5 minutes before they called me in. Listened to my concerns and prescribed me topical medications for my acne. Can’t wait to go to my follow-up appointment :)
